Does anyone know where I can find photos of Central Pacific's Jupiter locomotive from the 1900s? I know it lasted until 1909, but I can't seem to locate any photos of it from around then. Where would I start to modernize it? Thanks in advance
This apparently what "jupiter" looked like in 1902. link http://users.tns.net/~path/GS60.html "A name change was accompanied by even greater changes. A new boiler was installed, her bonnet stack was replaced with a diamond stack, her sand and steam domes were changed, and even her pilot, or "cow catcher", which had vertical slats, was replaced with one having horizontal slats. Then, in 1893, "1195" was converted into a coal burning locomotive."
Given the extended smokebox and normal looking stack, starting with the bachman "119" may be a better way to build a modernized Jupiter. Add an air compressor between in front of the cab, and some more modern domes, and you'd basically have it. Not sure what you could do about the cow catcher though...
