Any ideas for modeling a SW1001 in HO? Reading had a bunch of these beasts, and there's no model available. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/rdg/rdg2601ags.jpg http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/rdg/rdg2612ags.jpg My first thought was to start with an Athearn SW1000. Simply chop the cab down, and ignore the difference in the walkway height. I also considered melding an Athearn SW1000 long hood with a P2K SW1200 frame and cab. Any others?
While doing some searching I came across this: http://islandmodelworks.com/SW1001.html Does anyone have any experience with Island Model Works? From the picture, the detailing looks a little crude compared to the P2K and new Athearn releases.
I know of 2 magazine articles on the SW1001. The first is about the prototype with drawings, and the second is on how to model one in HO. They are both in the May 1996 issue of RMC (Railroad Model Craftsman).
I have some of their NJ transit commuter equipment, and i've also physically held the Sw1001 shell (i put it down to pick up something i dropped, and a crazy guy next to me snatched it up and bought it. gotta be tough i guess). Anyway, its OK, but i think some of the details on it are a little thick. It could certainly be better. Hopefully he may release a more refined version in the future. Its meant to snap onto a p2k drive, but i'm sure it could be addapted to any SW frame.
