TrainOrders indicated another Patched DRGW GP40-2 is headed to the yellow side. UP 1370 (Ex/ DRGW 3119) Unit heading for North Little Rock Jenks, AR. for Overhaul. The 1370 (3119) has been stuck at Clearfield, Utah for the last two days. Iwould have taken pictures, but I was operating the FrontRunner.
Oh I know. I hate to admit, but when it first debuted I thought the locomotive was awesome. I even went to the unveiling, and also saw it when it was parked for a bit out behind North Yard a couple times. But as it "ages" on me I really begin to think 'meh' it looks ok. Still better than the other Heritage units, but not sure how to explain what bothers me about it. As a side point, it really chaps my butt 5771 is painted in 4 stripe at the Museum. Josh
DRGW 3129, is still the best looking Grande Unit out there. And i have a feeling it will be the last one in Grande Paint someday. But lets not assume anything!

Although most of us remember her in the single stripe scheme, the 4 stripe is how she really should be preserved.
I disagree, just as you said, F9 5771 is mostly remembered in the single stripe. And F3 or F7 in 4 stripe would be awesome, but not sure about 5771. Maybe if they could repaint it sometime back to single stripe and then say every 5-10 years cycle back and forth. Josh
The UP should keep one engine from each merger and preserve it as part of their heritage fleet in its original paint, this is how heritage units should work. my 0.02
Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner. If UP went as far as painting a single unit in an entirely-prototypical scheme, faithful to the fallen flag, that would be OK too. I like the current D&RGW heritage unit, but the Rock Island unit IAIS did on a brand new loco was much better executed, IMHO. YMMV...
Definately, the Rock Island loco is a winner. Have to agree with the comments regarding the UP units. If you look at the D&RGW representation, it has motifs of the Grande, but what is up with the black mountain peaks, or the black Flying Rio Grande? The steam engines were white, the road diesels were gold, which in a sense both were left out. You don;t have the original road switcher scheme, or the black and gold that lasted 30+ years. Or the Rio Grande script familar with those engines. Dang, I just got ticked off. Josh
