Hmmm... I remember when railroad officials were asking who stole it several years ago.

Interesting too that he has pictured the aign at the tunnel and not loose in his possesion correct? Seems suspicious, but they do have decent eBay feedback.

    Possibility of a fake?

We have no way of knowing or guessing it's legitimacy. Best bet is inquiry to the railroad. If there is to be provided authentication with the item, then I'd think there'd seem to be a need for paperwork from the railroad noting it's sale to a private party. If they have such, then good luck finding those deep pockets in this economy.... Sale proceeds for such treasures have diminished greatly the past year or so.

Mmmmm, saw this some days ago & thought about the legalities of it too........
But man it would be the sweetest thing to hang on your train room wall, talk about bragging rights lol.
I'm tight,so I pinched a copy of the picture for later use.......

Here's what the seller says about it:
"THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND SIGN AND COMES WITH A LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY AND A LETTER GRANTING YOU FULL PERMISSION TO OWN THIS ITEM FROM THE PREVIOUS RAILROAD OWNER."

Of course, COA's can be forged.

It's perplexing given the eBayers decent feedback. However, there is no way the railroad (Union Pacific) would have removed the plaque themselves or allowed somebody else to do it.

And I remember the web forums from several years ago lamenting the theft of the sign.

It should be donated to the CRRM and just write-off 15 grand for taxes. It would be nice to have the Tenneesee Pass sign with the Glenwood Springs Dome monument.
