it happens every month after reading all the mr mags. i get the modeling bug. you know the real modeling, building things.

i mostly model southern railway steam to transtition period.

i have found it difficult to find some models i want (quality). with the lesser mfgs doing a lot of SR, i see fewer offerings from the "better" companies.

i want to find a kit or rtr model of any road as a base for building some of the gozillion ara cars southern had. the only thing i have found close is a red caboose model that i can't find in stock anywhere.

    any ideas?

    thanks david.

You're not going to find such cars "ready to run" and decorated. The Micro-Trains 43000-series is close. NorthEast Decals used to have a Southern Rwy. set that would have worked.

Here's one I did on a 29000 series Kadee that came with dimensional data only. Remember them? Evidently, not enough of us purchased these.

thanks chris. i found the steam freight cars earlier and saw some of 3rdrail's work there.

gregg, now all i need to do is find some of those mt cars and ne decals. then look at 'em and go shopping for other details.

greg, do you have info for northeast decals?
can't find them anywhere and i've ordered a half dozen of those 43 series mt boxcars.

    thanks

NorthEast Decals is out of business. Some hobby shops may still have some in stock, but the owner's daughter, Susan Welcome, sold off the inventory of NE Decals on eBay a couple of years ago. I think Micro-Scale may have SOU older style decals by now.

micro scale does not have pre 1960 rolling stock decals.

i will just use the "southern" decal for a loco and see if i can find a number set in the font for the car numbers.

i guess i'll just use the other reporting marks from something else. i don't plan on photographing these.

i am making a sign for the train room now "no magnifying glasses allowed".

    thanks
