I started a project to repaint some Intermountain F7s. That was a long time ago. I started again and found I am now missing some of the windows. Anybody been able to get these parts from IM? For that matter how do you get those back in??
I was just at Intermountain today. If you want I can try and dig through their scratch and dent room again when I go up there later this week and try to find some windows for you.
I can only share one experience with you. I contacted them to inquire about truck replacements for a tunnel motor that I had for quite a few years and they promptly sent a set to me. I have heard many good things about people asking for spare parts so throw out the line to them and let us know.
i will drop them an email and if I dont get a positive reply within a few days then I will let you guys know and maybe Sierra 117 can findthe parts next time he pays them a visit. Thanks guys.
I agree with John. I needed a truck, which I had damaged, for a SD40-T, so I e-mailed them. I had a reply straight away asking which color! It arrived in U.K. in less than a week free of charge. How's that for service!
I gave them a call about some handrails for a tunnel motor. They sent me an entire set at no charge. Try calling them, or sending them an email, they are pretty good at responding and helping if they can. Oh, good luck getting those windows back in...:ru-shocked:
Some years ago they sent replacement coupler mounting pads for F7's without problems. This year I inquired about a replacement frame part, since I broke a frame half when trying to tune the F3 mechanism. They offered to send a whole new drive but it never came. I am not sure whether I misunderstood something or what happened. Now I have contacted them for a missing front window insert for a F3 I bought new, got a prompt reply but no windows so far. I am hesitant to nag about this. What makes it more complicated than normal for them is that I am in Germany, so they have to prepare an international shipment with customs declaration. And it is my impression that custom processing of mail from the U.S. has changed here, what I see is that it takes longer now, and maybe something goes wrong sometimes as well. If someone has a spare right (engineer) side front window insert for a IM F3, I would be happy. This part is so small that it could be taped to a piece of paper and sent by letter. Otherwise I would try to make one by myself from a piece of clear styrene, this should be doable. P.S.: Now I received a set of F3 windows from Intermountain, see my later post. Problem solved! P.P.S.: Today replacements drives arrived here :thumbs_up: Customs processing here is quite slow, so it normally takes a month to receive apackage from the U.S.
A while ago I broke both windshield wipers on an IM FP-7, sent them an e-mail asking for price and promptly got an e-mail in return saying that they expected replacements within a week or so and they'd send at no charge. Ten days or so later, had my wipers @ n/c - real good service from my point of view.
I like hearing these stories after meeting the team at InterMountain. They are a great group of guys who really love the hobby. I expected a lot different when I went to meet them, but they are all laid back jeans and t-shirt guys who just love playing with trains. What's really neat is they have TONS of parts in their scratch and dent room and are more than happy to pull apart a rejected shell just to make sure their customers are happy and have the parts they need.
Me Too! While you are up there. I need a fan cover for one of my FT's a small packet of these would be just fine and perhaps a small package of drawbars. Reimburse or send advance. Let me know what you need.
Sure thing Rick! I am thinking about trying to scavenge as many parts as I can next time I go. There are quite a few projects I have that a drawer full of InterMountain parts would go awesomely with!
I just wanted to echo the theme here - I've had the same experience. I lost a few boxcar doors and after an email to IM, they sent them out at no charge. I love IM's stuff and I find myself collecting on a very small scale. I'm shooting for a full set of PFE dual herald reefers. I see them all the time on eBay for as little as $5. -Bryan
I called Intermountain today to inquire about some cars I've been looking for and I found them to be quite courteous, and responsive . That was my only experience with them for Customer Service, but a good one.
i dont need parts, but was wondering why both my ft sets came with no paperwork. im buying them off ebay and they are supposed to be new. maybe IM doesnt send any like atlas does, it dont matter to me, just curious. those engines sure run nice and pull good too. they still look a little different as far as ride heighth, but im getting used to them. its a little strange when i pulled the B unit shell off my demo's, then i dont notice the gap between the trucks and frame at all...
Contact IM about whether there should be any paperwork. They have helped me a couple of times, swiftly. As for ride height, are you speaking of the shells? If so, the early units had screws inside that the screw head did cause their shells to sit higher. There was a how-to in one of the N magazines. And I believe someone posted similar here. Hello, It is interesting to me that all of the replies regarding Intermountains Customer service has been positive. I however have exactly the opposite experience. On March 5th of this year I sent an e mail to Richard Frazier Director of IMRC customer service dept. requesting info on parts or repair availability for a Special Run caboose that was damaged from a fall during an N TRAK show. On March 8th I received a reply indicating it would take approximately 10 to12 weeks for a reply, and that my letter was sent to the appropriate dept. Fast forward to July 10 I sent another e mail to Mr Frazier explaining that I had not yet receive any word regarding my earlier message and could I please have an answer to my original request. I also included my original message. To date, Nov 1 I have NOT received any correspondence from IMRC regarding my request. I am curious why I have not gotten any further assistance from them. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield. Any suggestions would be much apprecaited from this forum. Rgds to all Jerry A Rescue, CA
So upfan44, you take the time to complain HERE about not getting a response- never once stating what you wanted (so no-one can judge if it may even be a reasonable request) about something YOU damaged or con. Get over it and buy another one. Hardly a fair, unbiased comparison, d
UPDATE: I emailed IM and got a response the next buisness day they said they were going to send me the parts.
the screws are not countersunk, but they dont appear to be higher than the frame. im not going to worry about it anymore, i just like them better the more i run them. my santa fe set appears to me to set lower than the demo's. the demo set does not have windshields, the santa fe's do. im wondering if they are really new, reason for asking about the papers, and the windshields not with the demo set. i'll be buying more of these fine engines...thanks
Good news: I got a padded envelope today containing a "windows sprue" for the F3. It was postmarked Oct 27th, so it travelled quite rapidly. A big "Thank You" to Intermountain customer service and parts department. I have put the window into the engine shell and hope it will hold. Very delicate parts, I tried to fix it with very little clear Revell enamel.
