Hi. I'm trying to get back into the hobby (with N scale) after last messing around with HO scale stuff over a decade ago.

Right now, as a beginner, I would prefer to use a book to guide me through building an entire layout and adding scenery. I found this book (N Scale Model Railroad That Grows) but had issues with the track pieces listed and how the book said to lay them.

I haven't purchased any track yet; I've just been trying to recreate the book's layout in xtrkcad for reference purposes right now. I'm under the impression that xtrkcad can print the layout for me to trace onto my table with, which could make substituting sectional track for flextrack a lot easier for someone with no experience in laying flextrack.

I was wondering if either someone that has access to the book could help me identify what each track piece is (or help me remake it in xtrkcad), or if someone could refer me to a better, yet similar in concept book.

And yes, I know that the book is from 1996 :(

The book doesn't specify which track piece is which on the layout diagrams, and the instructions for laying the track mention unusual sizes (such as 1 5/8", wasn't sure if that's supposed to be 5/8" or 1 1/4", given that this uses standard snap pieces). I intend to use flextrack anyway but I just want an accurate reference to avoid measurement errors.

    Done, thanks!

I'm building this right now. If you use the snap track everything falls into place as stated in the book.

I havent come across any mention of 1 5/8 track length.

    Mentioned are - 1 1/4 -, 2 1/2 -, 5/8-, 5-, 9 3/4 radius-, rerailer , bumpers no. 2356 -, right hand switch -, left hand switch - this is the track for the main line.
