I have always found the structures built for the cotton industry fascinating. Each one seems to have evolved over its lifetime with new additions sprouting out when a need arose. In the end, each one was unique with its convoluted roof line and rambling footprint. Typically they were a wood frame structure covered with corrugated sheet metal. They are always fun to build out of Evergreen styrene. I finally found enough information to model the F. A. Macek gin as it appeared in Rosenberg, Texas in the early 1950s. I will try to get more photos later when it is in place on my NTRAK modules. Here it is set out on my photo diorama.
Nice work Russ. Bringing all those roof angles together must have been a challenge. No picture this week. I instead put together a video roll-by featuring a new area of scenery on my layout. Roll-by in the Pass
Very nice Russell. I find them interesting also and I think hospitals do the same type of additions. You can get lost in one trying to find someone. Attached are two images of my favorite structure. These jpg's were made by John Sing at Chantilly VA. My "Ewing Oil" NTRAK modules . . . . .
The industrial complex is fascinating....and complex!!! What a model. DJ, nice atmosphere you have created in your image. Here I show a PRR 2-10-4 chomping at the bit. Pressure is up in the boiler, and it's rarin' ta go.
Nice shots, everyone. Love the fog, Grampy! It sure beats the time I tried blowing smoke across the layout :tb-biggrin::tb-biggrin: My sister has just acquired another loco, seen here on my layout. Not sure why she keeps collecting, but I'm not complaining, either. This is an Atlas Classic GP-7. Mike
Mike, yet another superior image from you. I sure wish I had your understanding of lighting. But, at least one of us has it. I have been playing around with effects in Sagelight. Here is my latest, my second submission for this week.
Crandell: I like that shot! I have a LOT of those in the photo box. Just not ready when the train comes by!
Thanks, Paul. I swear, I don't really know what I'm doing half the time. I can work a camera okay to get decent lighting and focus, but on my now for-years-old layout, it gets increasingly tough to get original shots and make them look good. This was just a lucky guess.
Our club set up the NTRAK layout this weekend for the November Layout Tour in the Houston area. Here is the cotton gin I just built set on the module that it was built for. Here is a photo showing the prototype.
That's a great vantage point, Crandell. Very nice indeed  My philosophy with photos and lighting is if I fire off enough shots, I should hit something :tb-biggrin: I'll use the same policy if I ever have the misfortune of being drafted. The GP7 was lit by one floodlight [and overhead fluoros] Several shots were ditched because of double shadows caused by having both floods switched on. Where would I be without digital cameras? I could never afford film. Nice work Russell and Mike [SW] - a good feeling of distance in that shot. Mike
One more from me - a long Guilford freight, led by an SD-35. I must do something about those backscenes - one board popped out from behind the other before I could take the photo. Yes I could photoshop it out, but too bad. Some day it'll be one long board, I hope. Mike
Good pictures, friends. Last Friday I had another op session in the basement. Now I've started another session, but this time only for me. Wolfgang
I have a project that I am starting into that is a little out of the norm for me. One of the gentlemen I work with at the hobbyshop is a circus fan and enough of that rubbed off that I have picked up the entire MTL Red train as it has been released. I'm doing small, one evening projects on it when I am burnt out on other tasks. Tonight I built one of the GHQ skid steers to ride on some additional flat cars for the train. I printed the decals tonight on the Alps. I still need to add the hydraulic cylinders and the safety bar in the cab. I love these GHQ kits. I also have the forklift in process and am going to get another forklift to kitbash into the airport luggage tractors that are used to move the circus wagons. Then on to some trucks and oddball wagons. Also did a little gardening on the HO layout. Still a lot more to plant but it's a start.
