Here's a few pix for chuckgeiger: the two depots in el centro. Both the SD&AE and SP, for reasons unknown, had their own depots which sat side by side. This is how they looked in the 2000's. They would also look appropriate in this condition for the 1980's.
Did you notice something different in my rolling stock in the last picture? Well, the engines on my line were weathered (old news by now) but now I've made another change for the better: I have repainted all of my cars--including trucks, which previously were left an unrealistic black. My cars were an ugly brown or tan color (one looked like a brown-purple even) and unrealistically weathered. so I drybrushed them all a more prototypical oxide red color, using a paper towel, lightly wiping a layer of oxide red paint, even over the letters to make them look faded. You can see the results in these attachments as well as the above photo.
"A Promise of Rain"-1/11/2011 My PFE reefers and other assored rolling stock came in the other day!!! Included was an SP c-30-1 caboose that I relettered as SD&AE #403. But enough blabbing! Picture below! And I'm gonna stop listing pix as my new favorites, because every new picture is my new favorite!
Thanks, bremner! Here is the caboose in a less-spectacular picture. I also got an SP gondola and SP ribside boxcar along with the six PFE reefers. Custom decaled the new caboose today for the SD&AE. There are smudges where the SP lettering was but that is possibly prototypical as these were ex-sp cars in real life. I'm starting to wonder, though... Is my editing in photoshop actually hurting my layout's appeal because it would never actually look like that in real life? I mean, I don't change the layout itself, I just take out the messy garage behind it... Maybe I should just invest in a photo backdrop & better lighting...
Absolutely not. In a few of your photos, the only thing giving it away is the difference in shadow color. Other than that, everything looks great!
"Ice Boxes in the Desert"--1/12/2011 It's amazing what a bit of work can do for a picture: compare the final to the original (attatchment)
I'd say your photography makes your layout look much larger than it actually is and shows it off well. Good job!
Here's the SP Yard sign for SP lives ( I put it here because my railimages and albums have limited space, so I want to post much of my pix as attatchments for now.)
Definitely some great modeling. Looking at your layout's pictures makes me think of what use to be considered by me "home." Very nicely done!!!
