All, Was able to get 37 Rio Grande TW quads today, at the Train Expo in Denver. Now, I have a quick question: Which side of car does the brake cylinder belong? All cars are in kit form, and all parts are in separate plastic bags, with NO instructions! And I'm not sure if I have that information on hand anywhere. And no, I currently can NOT check another car, since all my cars are currently in Denver! I'm gonna check one other source I have also. Still, information is much appreciated. Thanks.
Keith, All of mine have the brake cylinder on the same side as the brake wheel with the air reservoir on the opposite side, but still on the B end of course. Carter
Notched to fit that end of car only anyway. Just didn't know which way parts fit. Jim Eagers DRGW Color Guide also helped prove the way parts go. Thanks again.
Who did you you buy these through Kieth? I have had a box load on order for some time & still waiting for word...... When do we get to see some pic's?
Photos do help. Confirms the prototype photos. Yeah, 37 hoppers and 4 SD45's. Hoppers run me about $525. Kit form, but include MT trucks/couplers. Got mine from Rod, in Grand Junction. Hope to have photos tonight. Forgot camera yesterday! Nothing of new cars though, since I still have 31 yet to build!
I've got enough "mixed" cars, about 2 to 1 in favor of everything else! Before scoring the 37 hoppers, I had maybe 16 DRGW cars. Thankfully still, I have NO UP cars in the mix! I have BN, GN, Burlington, and MP as well as DRGW. Looks like what I see here in Longont, except for the UP stuff. May have to consider getting a few UP cars though. Not sure why....... Now, I gotta see if I can get more wheel weights for my cars, since I didn't get weights with my cars. But, I'd also like to order the new stye weights that Pat has for the quads. Gotta inquire about a bulk purchase, for about 90 cars! Other information has been much appreciated. Oh yeah.......Photos from GTE today will be posted a bit later tonight. Or possibly tomorrow. Thanks again.
Keith, You might want to hold off on any UP quad hoppers until we see if BLMA is going to produce a more accurate UP version. I am very hopeful that Craig will make the N scale model of the quad hopper that Tanget Scale Models makes in HO. Carter
I talked to Rod last weekend, and he was saying that Pat was using weights with stick on weights. Otherwise I was going with shotgun shot.
New weights used in the Tran Worx quad hoppers. As seen in the new Rio Grande Ready Kilowatt coal hoppers. Nice thing is, it puts the weight directly over the trucks. Gotta wait until next payday and see about ordering close to 60 cars worth! According to Pat at Train Worx, weights are available. $1 will do 3 cars.
And a couple of photos from the GTE over the weekend. Not much worth shooting, for me. Did get some shots of the custom tagged coal hoppers seen though! Both cars custom tagged for me, by Train Board member TBone!
