Ok, I redrew it with the folding doors to see how it might fit. I like this a little better because I was dreading the work involved to build that huge curved truss bridge. I did not see your drawing until I started to post this one and I got to say the wye might give me more room to get in and out.
I give up on the WYE because it just takes up to much space to turn around a train. I reposted the layout with the Lower layout not shown for simplicity.
Thanks, I guess they had another reason for backing in the Grand Canyon train instead of a loop. Now that I think about it I believe the conductor said it could handle 14 cars on the WYE at the Grand Canyon Depot, but the actual ride backing up didn’t seem like it was so long. Now that I’ve drawn it out in XtrkCad, I can see that it takes much more space than a simple loop.
What about adding a few more turns to the helix to bring the shelf a bit higher, move the loop more over the lower layout and not have to deal with a hinging section at all.
I did play around with that idea in the beginning then I thought it might look funny unless it was a truss bridge over the lower layout. It still might look funny, but at least I can either have a flexible rock colored fabric as a back drop or even a solid foam rock formation to support the loop when folded down. I didn’t want to get it too high because I have the entire lower layout at table height so I can roll around in my office chair. I have a fractured femur along with some other back problems that prevent me from being on my feet too long. Plus I plan to have an O-scale Amtrak passenger train running around the entire room at about 6’ft. and I don’t want to spoil the visual effect below. :tb-biggrin:
That may very well be, because the US Forestry Service keeps a tight rein on everything there. Even the dining car has to close as soon as it enters USFS property. When I was asking the conductor about the WYE he said that they used to have to turn the engine around until they could get approval to build the WYE and it was a real problem.
Yup...you know how them Forest Service/tree huggers are...and them dang "Spotted Owls" and all:tb-wink: .
I have a friend that has a private home on leased forestry property and they tell him what color to paint his house, what potted plants he can have on his porch and they don’t even let him plant grass for a lawn. He can’t even dig a hole without a permit.
What I was requesting was an electical diagram. I have an idea of the trackage but show me how to do the elec. Thanks!!!
Try this for starters is close to the bottom of the page. http://www.nmra.org/beginner/wiring.html There are a lot more drawing on line. I find some more
Thank You!!! - Something to understand with pic's. Some of us newer DCC guys that did nothing more than roundy-round with DC are a little slow getting up to speed. Some times we need a nudge and some times we need to be smacked square between the eyes. Thanks for slowing thing down to our speed.
