David K. Smith of 'JamesRiverBranch' and other greats has put together a much needed compilation of z track plans using ONLY MT micro-track. The plans are meant for realistic operation and visual appeal. Many don't require grades or cutting track (but those option are available too). James River Branch: Track Plans The plans are fantastic! Thanks David .... this is what we needed.
Yes, David has great skills at designing small layouts with real world charm. I wonder which one he will build next!
Wonderful plans!! Nice work David! Now, I can't believe what you could come up with, if the nice folks at Micro-Trains would add more track sections to their products. We've all offered suggestions over the past, now let's what Joe and Eric can bring out. Best, Donna:tb-biggrin:
There are some great track plans here. AFAIK when you buy the turnouts you also get 1 curve + a notched 110mm straight that may reduce the need to file track items. There may be a way to mark the bottom of curves & other track parts so you know how much to remove?
He also did a write-up on working with turnouts, including notching the track: http://jamesriverbranch.net/plans_notch.htm Also shortening sections: http://jamesriverbranch.net/plans_short.htm
Yes Dave, great job. I really love Anyrail, spend a lot of nights just noodling around with it trying different configurations for modules and the like. Keep up the good work Joe
Yep, trying out some new duds! ) Leaning a bit more towards Interurban with Sacramento Northern, but no avatar available.
Yeah Joe! More people interested in traction in Z! I was just talking to Bill at ZoCal's Del Mar layout about using a Pro-Z powered commuter car as a base for an interurban. Not everybody's thing, but certainly is mine. And I was looking at these great plans to see if any would do for a traction layout. -James
I too am interested in traction and in Z that would be a blast. I purchased one of the Pro-z sets with that in mind. If you have not purchased one now is the time as Pro-Z is dead and gone and remaining stock is being discount to 20% off at Hobby Search. That is what prompted me to purchase. I already have one Diesel Rail Car based on Japanese car bodies and a GP chassis from MTL. Tonight I finished the drive line rebuilt on an EF81 which I cannibalized for parts to fit into the Hallmark M10000 so should have that running in a day or two with DCC no less. For the doodle bug though I would start with a Hallmark Observation body similar to what I did in N-scale many years ago.
