Finished the construction just in time for Christmas break. Still need to be painted and final details such as windows, beacon and external lights need to be added. Also looking at how to tackle the decals.
I would LOVE to see a step by step tutorial on how you built this! Would be a great how-to article! Mike C
Thanks. Am doing an article for NSR. Been documenting the whole process. Have a few more hours of work. Windows will be a labour intesive, even though about trying a Micro Mark PE kit out to speed up the process. It SRS-146. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a "generic" Sperry car, something I discovered during research. I had dimensional data for SRS-146 and a good bit of photos to work from.
Fanastic Job Wow! I was thinking of scratch building such a model. A modeling professional friend and I were talking about making this a Project. Unfortunately I lost touch with him as I got Laid off. I am happy that someone is making the effort in building one. Once again Great Job. Bill
Finsihed minus decals and windows. Debating on decals, whether to do my own artwork or just have it done by a pro. Windows will be a pain. The protype had different widows. Later rebuilds had straight frames that could be modeled by cutting foil. This erea had exetended window panes. Will look a aftermarket for something close and make one or two from styrene. Also thinking about trying my hand at photo etching some.
Keeps getting better! Can't wait to read the how-to article on this one! Speaking of photo-etching, what about making photo-etched sides, etc to make it available is a pseudo-kit? Mike C.
This is an absolutely fantastic model of the newer versions of the Sperry cars. When I did mine I modeled the older version based on a doodlebug which goes with my older era modeling. A number of years ago, almost twenty now, I got lucky and caught one of the Sperry cars in what used to be Potomac Yard and took a number of photos which are in my 1 to 1 album. This photo may be of some use in lettering. This is going to look good sitting on the siding waiting for track clearance. Again danged good work. Some of the best I've seen in a while.
WOW!! Tony, that's some fantastic work my friend!! It already looks killer, and the addition of the windows and frames will make it even better. Outstanding !!
Hello,Tony!Excellent job!Any photos of finished work? Can you give a little info about 1.You have links for drawings Sperry cars 2.What chassis you use for Thank you.
