ideas wanted for making an SP equivilant of UPY UPDATE WITH LOGO!! LOOK!

ok guys as you know i model a modern SP. with all the locomotives obtained throughout the mergers numbers are running short and I am considering making an SPY just like UP did for their switchers... my question is how should locos look for SPY? They will be bloody nose for sure but what else? i think id put SPY above the reporting marks on the sides of the loco just like up did. i know UP put red and white stripes on them as seen here
    http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NRE_3GS21B_UPY_2733.jpg#globalusage

i was just wondering if you guys think i should too or maybe something a tad bit different... (i do have a genset and will get it painted SP but will NOT put the numbers on the nose like that as it would interfere with the SP letters). If you have a suggestion to mark the SPY units different from UPY units fire away! im open to all suggestions on how to distinguish these units from regular SP units. also just to make sure im not stupid when UP numbers a unit UPY 2733 that means there can also be a regular UP 2733 right? because isnt that the whole point of the UPY to free up numbers for the main roster?
    any help is appreciated thanks!

many have suggestion putting the SP logo on these well how about this?

the easiest solution is to use a reporting mark that they already own. SSW. If they went that route and used standard SP switcher paint with no wings, it sould make sence. I would rather see the return of DRGW marks and black/Aspen Gold paint, but for a cost saver, and no extra legal fees, the ever frugal SP would have most likely brought a return of the SSW for switching activity.

Before the 1965 SP renumbering, the SP, SSW, SD&AE and T&NO all had their own numbering. For instance, in 1951, the SD&AE 101 was a 2-8-0, and the T&NO 101 was a S4

hmmmm interesting didnt know that but im not wanting to make SSW marks as some units with speed letters have them under their numbers and i don't want them being confused as yard units... also as for the no wings on the switchers thats a ok on normal switchers but i was going to put wings on the genset because as someone mentioned before its more of a road switcher and ive seen it with and without the wings via drawings and i prefer they wings... so do you have any other ideas for identification marks on them? doesnt have to be red/white stripes i can get something unique...
of course i will keep your suggestion in mind in case its needed. Thanks!

I don't think that it is an issue, the last "new" SSW engines were the GP40-M2's of 1991, before that, GP60's in 1990. These locos are now 20 years old.

to make them a different breed, perhaps a return of the SSW yellow instead of the red might be an option.

another option would be red sills...but in all honesty, I doubt that the SP would have 2 paint styles, they learned their lesson. In 1958, they went from 3 to one. There have been some specials, but they stayed with the Bloody Nose

exactly, this would be a simple variation that does not cost extra

And that sill stripe was only on Speed Lettered locos

Only the UPY has done that since 1960.....I doubt that the SP would have. But a return of iger stripes would be cool, Holy 1950's flashback Batman!

this was my question all along do you guys think i should put these on them or a differnt color of stripes or something? considering the red might mix with the red of the bloody nose

I really think that white stripes on the nose of a SP/SSW loco would not look right. The SP did their best to make EVERYTHING look the same.

but SP did not breach 10000 locos either and need to separate some of them from the main roster...

Love this idea! I do like the SPY marks, maybe you can have the stripes (like on the Genset above) and have a small SP logo above them with a small road number below the stripes.

It makes sense to me using the SPY reporting marks, that way your yard units will never interfere with your road units. I'd stick with the SP's reflective White still stripe rather than use the Yellow or Red ones, if possible.

Now, since I'm not a "modern" modeler myself and don't mess with Gensets at all, is it possible to move the headlight to the cab so there would be more room for the red/white stripes and SP logo so you could have the road number on each end like SP did?

I'm really looking forward to seeing photos of this model. :)

i think the lights are higher up... also i have to have SP written on the front as i like it too much the thing about red and white stripes is the red might blend in with the nose.... it will be a while before you see this unit... i have one undecorated but shes still sitting here at my house. I sent 4 SD70ACes and 2 trinity covered hoppers to be painted. 2 ACes will be SP bloody nose 747 and 831(the date my SP take UP) and 1 will be ROCK blue SP1980 heritage unit and the other will be DRGW black and Orange SP 1988 heritage units the two trinites will be grey with Loco sized black speed lettering down the middle. They have just been delievered to him and are all pretty detailed thus they will take a while but if you guys want i can get him to send pictures as he works on them
