Hello to all I am self employeed and due to the recession and some bad decessions i am n need of some quick cash, About 10 years ago i had some extra cash and bought someones collection of ho trains. There are thousands of pieces, alot of them appear to be new and in the origional boxes, they are in my storage building in plactic totes, not looking to get rich, just looking for a fair market price. thanks
we really need to use the 30 or 40 post rule around here!!!! people joining the forum just to sell there goods! craigslist or ebay would be your best bet!!!!
Not at all, Mark. There are several members who just trade via TrainStore and haven't contributed to the forums. One way of looking at it is it gives TrainBoard members first bite at the cherry so to speak before going to alternative venues. It also attracts new guests and eventually members.
I myself have been on here a very long time and I do enjoy reading the posts. I however am not really one that posts on here and I do find it interesting to see what people have on here in the Trainstore Forum. I see no problem with people selling on here just so long as they are not asking a rediculous amount for their items and are not a store. Like was previously stated, it gives us Trainboard members a first crack at items that we may be looking for. Levi
Exactly what he said.:thumbs_up: nabind, Do you have a rough list of specific items? Perhaps if you pick out 5-10 locomotives and list their type, brand, apparent condition you will get more people interested if they see something they like. I have nothing to base this off of, but I get the impression that listing items individually (or at least in smaller lots) may be the only way to get things to sell. I just don't hear about many full collection purchases anymore. :/ Best of luck.
If you need quick cash for the entire collection; you won't get fair market value for them. The true market value are recent auctions on ebay. I have purchased many N-scale collections and when buying a whole collection, I will never pay more than 60% of what I can sell them for separately on ebay. Remember, between ebay and Paypal, they will take 13% of the sale. To have any chance of selling a collection at all, you will need a good list and good photos. Just some friendly advice from experience.
A list would be quite helpful of a Lot of items. And pictures never hurt since folks here don't know you or the items for sale. And things do sell quite well here in the Trainstore
...And of course, my pet peeve: WHAT SCALE IS THIS STUFF????? You have to read the entire post to find out if it's something you can even use. PLEASE post the scale in the title.
I was hoping he would return with a list and some pics. If he was looking to get someone to PM so he would not have to do any legwork. Phone # = conversation for a verbal discussion of items. I always wonder about those who don't put down there location when they are selling something. He was on yesterday at about 2. So he must want to see what activity he can create. Eleven have checked his profile so we are interested. So now all he has to do is tell us more about his collection and where it can be seen and shipped from. Oh, and prices.
Maybe he ended up selling off his computer first. NO to the 30 or 40 post rule. I don't think so. The OP said it's HO, he's selling off. Yep, my curiosity peaked and I had to check it out. I have a friend that buys up whole collections. Down side is he doesn't pay much but it is quick cash. I don't use E-bay as a barometer for prices and what something should sell for. I go back to the original MSRP and start there. If it is used, then it's worth less... then it went for originally. Oh well, let's hope he checks back in with us and let's us know what's up. We can help him liberate his collection.
Actually, he did say what scale it was, but he neglected to CAPITOLIZE it and/or put it in bold lettering. (Note: the astricks and bold/capitalization added by me for emphasis.) Although, I do agree with you, it's agrivating to dig through a whole listing, finding stuff you're interested in... only to find out it's not the scale you're modeling. GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR... Since I'm looking for some HO stuff for my charity project layout, I'd be interested in seeing what he has. to offer (unless, he's already sold the collection to a broker... assuming there's an actual collection in the first place).
Actually, he did not put it in the title of the thread like the moderators asked. You have to open the thread and read through the post like I said. In a catch-all thread like this one, listing scale is important. But as I said, it's just a pet peeve, from reading tons of posts and threads. Of course, if the OP never posts again, it won't really matter, as the point will be moot. On edit: Yay! The scale is posted in the heading!
