Has anyone attended the train show in Plano, TX today? If so, is it worth the trip? Any comments would be helpful. Thanks Charlie
Spent several hrs out there today and had an OK time. Same dealers, same products as previous years. A few good finds but for the most part nothing jumped out at me. Some of the clubs have updated their layouts and there were some really cool things. The layout tour would have been fun, but have the kids this weekend so didn't do that. One of the best layouts at the show was a narrow gauge "O" scale layout. I'll try and post some pics by tomorrow. If you're in town, I'd go just because it's a train show and there may be something you see that didn't interest me but it's what you're looking for. I'd give it a B- on the grade scale.
I spent about three hours out there and met many friends that I only see at the show. I didn't go out there to buy anything so I spent most of my time in the central layout hall eyeballing details on the layouts and talking to old friends. For me it would be worth the $7.00 entry. However, so that there is full disclosure, I do get free admission since my layout is on the tour. BTW, the layout was open last night and I had 25 sign the guest book so it was a good day all around.
Yep, it was a fine time and I am still tired from Saturday's festivities. Mopman's layout is great and all were impressed with the work he has done. When you see guys who were there last year coming back on the tour, you know he's doing something right. Thanks to G3 for the photos he posted, the third one is of "Pat's" store on the Texas Outlaws On30 layout. I built that little store many years ago and named it for my wife. I am glad to see that it has a place on the Outlaws layout and thanks for showing the photo. If you are in town Sunday, check the show out. Woodie
Since I'm now in NE Oklahoma, going down to Plano is somewhat out of the question. The one gripe I have with that show is the space- or lack thereof. Awfully cramped compared to the Ft. Worth show area. Still, it was good to be able to attend when I lived in the area. And I miss seeing the layouts and the folks who run 'em.
Same Show Is this the same as the Lockheed-Martin Train Show or the Ft Worth Train show? Or is this a different train show? Thanks.
Nope-this is the Plano show, not affiliated with the LM show. There might not be a Fort Worth show next year...costs and parking may end the venue. The Plano convention center wants much more $$$ also, so the Plano show might get hit also. Maybe somebody knows the inside poop.. Woodie
I was there Sunday and enjoyed it immensely. took my Dad along (it was his 59th birthday) and we both had a blast. Saw some great layouts. here are my pictures: Plano Train Show 2011 - a set on Flickr
