Cool! I've often wondered what these modern cowl units would look like with the classic paint schemes of the fallen flags! I have to say, they look pretty good compared to the more mundane modern paint schemes these are seen in on real prototypes!

I must say that I'm thinking of getting a pair of the Southern Pacific units to pull my Daylight train. The looks on the rivet-counter's faces will be priceless!
My guess is that these sold well enough in HO for Athearn to do them in N. I say more power to them.

Athearn is doing a decent job of putting out its Horizon Hobbies-era models in both scales (skipping when necessary - i.e. no SD70ACe when it's already done by Kato).

Although I'd love to see them come out with some intermodal containers on N like they have in HO. They make Husky-Stacks, after all! I mean, I love DI too, but let's see some competition here! :)

You'd really need some modern passenger cars in those road names for them to pull but I guess it is a fantasy. Could Athearn be trying to take the place of Con-Cor?

While they are not for me like MTL collector cars I hope enough people buy them to allow Athearn to use the proceeds to make something real.

I like the idea, however I don't really care for the paint schemes. I am just a odd duck that doesn't like SP or ATSF. Here's hoping for a SD70M in Big Sky Blue.

I'd prefer they just use the funds directly for that something we've all been waiting for, probably since the dawn of N scale, that UP 4-8-4 ;)

I have no problem with the fantasy stuff (just look at my Pepsi train). But any excuse I can get to complain about not having that 4-8-4, I'll take. :p :p

it's in the wrong paint scheme, it needs to be in Black Widow, ALL passenger F's delivered to the SP and the T&NO came in Black Widow....now IF it said Cotton Belt...then it could be a F.

If they push it in GN's scheme, I'll but a full Kato passenger set and watch that bullet-nosed beauty grind rails for HOURS. It'll look nice next to my Loewy-schemed NP overlands and an ES44AC in NP's Canoe scheme ;)

Ya know, I don't blame you one bit and I truly did have similar thoughts though not about steam.

They are also doing the Santa Fe Super Fleet Scheme, Pennsy, and Southern. Guess they couldn't come up with something better for the factory to do???

I find it amusing. And maybe, a New Haven coloured engine would be nice to have.

At least Athearn tells us that these are fantasy schemes. Con-Cor sold them for being realistic models....

They are doing them in HO as well so it's not a case of 'those N scalers will buy anything, why bother with new releases'.

Wow, where did you get that? I looked at the Athearn site and somehow missed that one.

Maybe they could spend less time coming up with paint schemes on paper, and actually get out the GO (Ontario) F59PHI they promised. Next time maybe they could produce their half-prototype passenger set and locomotive at the same time, instead of releasing the cart first and making us wait half a year to see if the horse will ever come.

As long as they aren't producing the F59PHI in the Amtrak California scheme (the original customer for this loco), this just p----s me off.

Some of the 'prototype' schemes they are doing, like the New Mexico Rail Runner, are not correct for the F59PHi either.

I would agree with several of the posters regarding doing something "real" and that was promised.

Wether or not the F59 for the Railrunner is correct, I have had one on order since ? ? ? These with tsunami sound were announced in February 2010. I just received an answer from Athearn regarding my question abot delivery date. The reply was that these will be " late August ". Whoopee, why announce so far in advance? Testing the for demand? If these fantasy schemes come out before the Railrunner, I'll be p***ed! Makes me want to return all of the cars I bought to go with the loco. I think some of the manufacturers are forgetting who butters their bread!

I have a pair of the Daylights on order. It fits with my MO of modern RRs still running passenger trains.
