I'm installing a loco service facility on my layout. I've installed the concrete slabs for inside the shop and out at the service platforms using "Fixall" for the concrete (I like Fixall because it's cheap, does not shrink and can be pre-tinted). Outside, where the fuel platform is, I've installed the new Peco service pits. The pit inside the building is from Stewart (I think). These next pics show the Bachmann shop temporarily placed. The Bachmann building, once weathered, is not all that bad! The pit inside is barely visible but it is more visible in person. Not quite the City of Commerce facility, but it will have to do! Russ- That does look nice. How about an overall view of the facility? I can't think of what "Fixall" is...?? Is it something similar to a spackling compound? Boxcab E50
VERY nice, Russ! Those service pits look excellent, Peco, you say? I had not seen those before, they certainly make pits easier and they look good.
Russ, Nice work. Keep us up to date. I am working on a very similar project with the Bachmann kit and am about at the same stage as far as concrete and pits. I will try to take some pics this weekend and share with you all. I agree on the Bachmann kit, I am putting a couple of them together and hopefully if I ever get time doing some details on the inside. Maybe your work will inspire me to get back to mine. Thanks Bryan
Eugen, excellent pics of your layout I have been looking at your rail images album, your layout is truelly superb.
I checked the Walthers site and they do carry the Peco Pit; http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/552-142566 [ 06. October 2003, 16:55: Message edited by: LarryMacWI ]
I have photos of a somewhat similar prototype situation (the former Youngstown and Northern shop facility) which is now Larry's Truck and Electric, a major loco scrapper and leaser, on my site at http://www.trainweb.org/lfnwfan/html/Larry's.htm This may give ideas for another approach to the loco service concept.
