I like the scene you've created with that large loop and greenspace. The scene looks like it could be from GOOGLE earth.

Attempted to model a "mossy" lake. Wanted to make a place that looked like a good place to Bass fish.

Nice looking layout, great job so far! I see you are in the transition era, what local/prototype are you modeling?

I model the old Slaton, Division of the Santa Fe. But I moved to west central Arkansas years back for the fishing. This pond was built at the insistence of a granddaughter, who wanted a "fishing hole" on the layout. Having always modeled the Texas panhandle, it was strange to make all those trees. LOL

    Great looking layout!

I like your bass fishin' hole!

I have one on my layout also!

Two of my favorite hobbies, n scale and fishin! It don't get any better than that!

Anyhow, I have a fishing boat with fisherman on my bass pond on my layout. I think woodland scenics is who made the boat, dock and fisherman that I have on mine.

It would add a nice touch to yours also.

Only a few more months of winter and I will be out fishing myself!

    Take care,

    Wayne

Yes, and no, this roundhouse is being built to the blueprints in The Chief Way Reference Series, Santa Fe System Standards Vol3. The plan is for 132' roundhouse. Have not found any of the SF roundhouses that were all 132' long stalls. So the stalls, end&side walls follow prototype. But again, don't think any SF roundhouses were built with all long stalls. This project started out as a model of the SF roundhouse in Sweetwater, Texas, but was unable to locate photos of the end wall detail.
Modeling SF concrete roundhouses is quite a challenge. The base side walls were very drab (no, fortress ugly). Do a search of the Redondo roundhouse and you will understand.
But the road often either painted the end walls or added brick or rock trim, sometimes years after construction. This is the problem for anyone trying to find modeling photos of a particular exterior.
Since I couldn't get the Sweetwater info, settled on an all 132' design.
Here are some pics of a reduced stall version of the Albuquerque RH that didn't survive the move to the new layout.

Oh yeah, the pond does have a few fishermen already, The boat dock is in dry dock (still half finished on the workbench).

Here are some pics of the pond construction. Foamboard forms and old school brown paper towels soaked in plaster, painted with acrylic and india ink washes. The "water" is many (way too many) coats of Modge Podge, each tinted with acrylic paint to help create the illusion of moss and submerged weeds.

Engine terminal's have been a major focus of all of my layouts. Spending my grade school years two blocks from the SF roundhouse at Slaton, Texas in the mid-50's, I had a front row seat to steams last years.
Here is yet another model, based again on the same standard SF blueprints.

Most excellent! Great capture of the cramped, busy terminal.
