This is my 1st post.I have a Legacy Diesel that the smoke unit is inop after 2 days of use. Can I just buy one and install myself? It was working fine, the wife asked me to turn it off so i did. Turned it on when she left and probably ran it out of fluid burning up the element. The fan works fine.

    Little update..

Took the loco out to the shop and blew air in the unit, sprayed in some brakecleaner blew it out somemore. Let it air out an hour or so. Put it on the track added some Lionel smoke fluid nothing. Added some fluid I had from a train show(hot choclate smell) and it puffed. Blew it and started smoking its but off. Worked for about 45mins of run time. Shut it down started it up...no smoke..added fluid blew in it and smoking again.

    Are all fluids the same?

I wonder what they make the smoke fluids out of these days? Probably not as good as when I was doing Lionel and AF.

If you run it for any length of time with the smoke unit on and no fluid, you probably cooked the wick. You can get replacements from Lionel. I have a Legacy diesel that happened to, waiting for the wick from Lionel to arrive. :)
