Here is a 1' X 1' square I have built for the NMRA division here. I sort of feel outnumbered as I am the only N Scaler participating. Mike
Wow....that is one awesome scene! I see you have hinged loading ramps and the old kit from Walthers didn't. Did they use to use some sort of portable dock plate to load the ice from the platorm to the car?
There were all types of methods but the most common I have seen was portable ramps or chutes that could be place anywhere on the dock and sometimes it was just a 2 X 12. Thanks , Mike
Hi Mike, Excellent scene. In the late 50's - early 60's, I worked during the summers at the PFE ice dock in El Paso. The dock was a mile long and we often had 80 - 100 car trains of cantalopes come in from the West. At any rate the dock had a chain down the center and it pulled the ice to the end. The cars had a wooden ramp attached to dock that rested on top of the car. A man would pull a block of ice off the chain as it passed and swing it into the cars bunker where it would be picked into smaller chunks so that it would settle into the bunker. Some salt was added and bunker closed. Keep in mind that these blocks of ice were 300 pounders. Gooood work for a punk kid on summer break. Pay was good too for summertime work. After my 1st year PFE added a machine that ran on rails on top of the deck. It picked the ice from the chain and broke it into smaller chunks and dropped it into the cars via augers. Again, excellent scene. Carl
Oooohhhhhh....Uuuummmmmmmmmmmmm :tb-ooh:....Mike said the naughty "N" word !! :tb-wacky: J/K Mike...lol. I really like that scene :thumbs_up::thumbs_up: I hope they do too ! .
Mike if the nmra guys out there are like they are here. They wont vote for nscale because they cant see it. Normaly the ho guys win the contests and get the gift certificates.
Thanks so much guys , I don't care if they do vote on it , it only maters that you all like it anyway!!! Thanks , Mike
Very good.:thumbs_up: This type of diorama is a very popular form of model railroading in Japan as it allows modelers with no space for a layout to build a detailed scene to display their models. Japanese model railroad magazines often have several pages devoted to them, some of which could be best described as works of art.
I have seem this time and time again with the NMRA guys. To me it seems like they overlook us Normal scalers. The way I see it is this. There are some excellent modelers on HO scale and N scale as well. One of my favorite layouts is the Franklin & South Manchester. I am always amazed at the changes everytime I see it featured in MR. I just dont understand why some people that are in HO will ONLY look at other HO layouts and walk right by the others.
nice Great job Mike. I will never understand the bias of some modelers. I look and enjoy it all from z scale to the 7.5 inch ride on stuff. It is all neat and every person modeling has a different take on things and it shows in their work.
