BN 4082 Here is BN RS3 4082 repainted back to NP for the recreation of the grade crossing accident at the scrapyard. Knew I had a photo of it somewhere. Photo taken at Tacoma, WA on 10-24-78 in the company of fellow BN RS3 4085, both of these ex-NP. The notes say it's at J Simons and Sons. Brian Ambrose Renton, WA
I don't remember. Anyone? I think a lot of fan/photogs took pictures of that unit before it was cut up. I remember there was on old Port of Tacoma switcher in there about that time. Wish I could find my slides of that- Anyone know where I put them? :tb-wacky: Boxcab E50
Bicentennial theme I just got a CD back from a new camera shop that is closer to home I am trying out that I wanted to compare to the last CD from the old shop I used to frequent. These three are the first on the CD. 1) BN train #83 climbing upgrade at Berne, WA on the former GN Stevens Pass route behind BN 6327/827/6907 on 10-14-78. 2) Mid-train helpers on #83 are BN 2506/807/1776. Note Bicentennial 1776 is the rear unit on the helper. 3) The helpers have cut out of the westbound at Skykomish and I caught BN U30C 1776 as it slowly passed by. Now keep in mind the quality on these three are not going to be the greatest anyway as I was shooting with a 126 Instamatic camera and using the deaded Fotomat slide film! 4 and 5) And from the previous camera shop are these two rosters of BN SDP40 1976 at Auburn, WA back on 8-13-77, again with the 126 Instamatic. Still debating how much I like the first three. How do they look on other monitors? Feel free to critique. Brian Ambrose Renton, WA
For my monitor, the colors on #1-3 are much better than 4,5. Perhaps they also did a bit of "correction?" I'd not pass on either. Sure can't go back and grab any better views now....
Good, thanks guys. Guess I'll stick with these guys awhile unless a better camera shop comes along. Brian Ambrose
Looks good on mine as well. Great shot of the old Q car as well! I have pictures of 1991 and the Freedom caboose as well. Just dont know where they are ( not in a digital medium but if I find them they will be!) I know somewhere I have tons of BN shots. I grew up along the Barstow Sub ( Illinois ) and used to try my hand at photography with an ancient kodak lol. But if they ever make the memory scanner that turns thoughts to photographs then I have a ton of great shots.
Funny, there's about 4-5 of the ex-MOPAC caboose's up here in Seattle in various places for shoving, and "idler cars" for the Alaska Ferry carfloat.
Great shots! I know they painted 91 back into BN colors, but whatever happened to the caboose?(waycar I know turn in my I used to work for BNSF card) Have a ton of old MOP cabs like that in Fairfield Iowa. There is a rail dealer there on a piece of old RI trackage that connects to the Ottumwa sub.Wouldnt mind one making the trip up here! Better yet Boxcab, how about a mind scanner that does DVD's ( or whatever the next big thing is) that would be even cooler. Sighs someday right?
Whatever it takes! A time machine, brain downloader, or???? Imagine all the mysteries or questions which might be cleared up. Locations, dates, and what was happening, that did actually exist, plus....? Boxcab E50
There used to be a whole bunch of old Alaska RR boxcars on a spur just north of the Spokane Street Viaduct/West Seattle Freeway, just east of Marginal. I never got around to taking a photo. I'm sure they've been gone for ages now. Boxcab E50
Th ex-NP F unit photo- Is that the old ferry dock in background? I remember riding that train at the zoo! Thought I had a picture or two. Guess not. Boxcab E50
Yep! The old ferry dock is on the left, with the old pier in the center. I spent ALOT of my youth on that pier! Except for the railroad, all is gone in the pic.......
Yes, it's all different now. That park around the newer ferry landing, etc. The GN depot is still there. A bit of a pain to photo trains. Hard to photo a ferry close in. The parking area a block or so north is always jammed full, but a good vantage point. Boxcab E50
Here are five more photos recently scanned from my collection. 1) BN C424 4240 in Seattle on 5-19-78. This was built as SP&S 300, their first C424. 2) BN #149 heading south out of Argo in Seattle on the late afternoon 5-14-78 behind BN 4240/845/2500. (C424/F9B/GP35) 3) BN GP38-2 2097 at Interbay on 12-26-78 4) Aftermath of the Snohomish, WA wreck. BN #83 with 6460/6637/6482 slowly pass by sister SD45's 6436, 6487 and F45 6630 on 9-22-80. 5) BN SD40-2 7874 at Skykomish, WA on 10-23-83. Brian Ambrose Renton, WA
