I am building a few modules for a local module group. I want to use blue/pink foam for the layout to keep weight down. Does anyone have experience with this? Should I drop the foam into the frame so that the edges are protected or is it OK to have the foam on top. I am worried about the edges of the somewhat soft foam getting damaged. Any tips would be appreciated.

    Hi Greg! Welcome to TrainBoard!

Yes, I would recommend dropping the foam into the framework, or at least building a fascia up over the foam edges. Especially for a module group where things will get moved around and bumped into much more frequently. As you describe, those edges are very soft and you wouldn't want a huge chunk ripped out.

I'd love to know more about the project as you go along. :)

Progress threads are always great inspiration! :)

How about a Masonite fascia similar to what you would find on a permanent layout?

Just make it deep enough to cover the foam, and not necessarily interfere with any legs or the like.

Thanks for the words of advice. I'll be starting in the next week or so and will take progress photos and post.
