I was doing some work on my AC12 yesterday (actually taking OUT the Tsunami and putting in a Lenz mini-Silver.... the high pitch of the dynamo was driving me nuts, and I would rather have the finer low speed control), and that went fine. Buttoned everything up (oops, knocked the plate loco plate cover off, not the first time -- reinstalled) picked up the loco to return to the tracks, and, lo and behold, there's a part on the foam! It looks like a small valve, red handle, pipe, etc., but I cannot find where it came off of to put back on! Can't see it in any of the detail photos on the IM site.

    Hey Rick,

There should be two of those, one on either side of the screw that holds the draw bar to the tender. The red faces forward. :)

Mark, thanks, perfect! Two, you say. OK, I see the post for the second, but... Not in box, not where I was working.... I'll have to look around some more, but maybe gone :parghh:

make sure you attach it with a dab of CA, I've had mine fall off numerous times, thus causing derailings, usually at the worst point on the layout.

Yep - thinking along those lines. Will have to carefully look over entire layout, and in the roundhouse, to see if I can find the second one. Never even noticed it coming off (but, did have a couple derailments for "no reason", so wonder if one of those was the other falling off.

Wonder if IM has any spare detail parts for sale? (Richard - you there?)

Yeah, they do hang down in perfect position to catch the slightest gap or uneven joint in the Unitrack.

Hopefully you can find it after a quick glance over the layout but worst case, I'm sure IM has some spares available.

So you removed the Tsunami completely? Are you going to adjust its program at some point then replace it or leave it out?

I'm thinking I'm going to leave it out. When I have the GS-4, the BLI E8s and the AC12 all going, that little shed is just too noisy (no sound in my F3 / F7s for the CZ and ElCap). Even if I get another AC12 (and I'm this close to ordering), I'm thinking just the Lenz.

It would be nice if IM could make a small packet of AC12 mini parts available. I would gladly purchase several as I am sure they will be necessary at times as the years go by.

Yes, we have spare parts, just give us a call, or drop a line and we can get you taken care of.

An interesting idea but I'm not sure how we could implement it.... which parts would be put in the bag? This locomotive has dozens and dozens of little parts, all of which can come off (that is a long story too...). It would be difficult to determine the best mix/ratio of each set.

Generally, we have parts for a long long time. We are still providing parts to our O scale cars & kits, a product line we sold off over a decade ago. For now I think we can cover the needs and based on the requests so far we're going to have parts for quite some time. Keep them ideas coming!

    OH OH OH!!

I'm sure a kitbash detail set consisting of any detail parts that are similar to those of other AC type locomotives such as the AC-9, would be a great parts bag! :D :D

That way, kitbashers could have an easy grab bag for their incredible creations, and those of us who are still overwhelmed by the exquisite details on the AC-12 could buy a backup set for our own piece of mind. :)

If your did not like the volume of the dynamo why not just turn down the dynamo volume??
For low speed control did your set the CV209 and 210?? These will help with slow speed control.

I have two Cab Forwards or Backward Mallets as Espy folk called them. One with a Tsunami and one with a TCS decoder. The non-sound loco drives me nuts! It is two quiet! The CFs were rather noisy in real life. To each his own.

Yep, I did. Very impressed with the sound, but unlike my other sound locos, really bugged me (my operating conditions are in an 8x15 shed, so very close quarters). Who knows, maybe I'll put sound in them (yep, bought a second, #4285) in the future, but for now, I'm good.

These responses just guaranteed that my next loco purchase will be an ACxx. I may wait for the new DCC run. It's great to see you on the board listening and interacting. Thank you. (now if you will get us some good small steamers next :), couldn't resist, figured you were here but I digress)

And some folks wonder why I prefer IM over just about anyone else. Great service, attention to a quality product, thus ensuring they have another satisfied customer.
