Anyone heard that Athearn might be doing the Union Pacific Gas Turbine in N Scale? I have been waiting so long for some one to do this loco other than brass, please let me know!

    Thank You!

I thought Con Cor was only doing the U 50.

Cor-Cor's website still shows the veranda turbines and the U-50s for late 2011.

CC's U50 and Turbins will feature new handrails but little else. I really would love to see some etched grills on those things.

    Updated Detailing on the bodies
    Working Mars lights
    Working MicroTrains ® Knuckle couplers
Updated mechanism with 5 pole motor
DCC "ready" with approved NMRA Socket set for easy mounting of a decoder
DCC Sound Decoder Tender offered by Con-Cor as "Add-On" option

Seems like more than a "little" IMO

Yep, I'm ready for Athearn to kick their N-scale BIG locomotive production into gear already. The HO ones are neat, I own one of each turbine for display, but us N scalers can sure make better use of them. 1 turbine (maybe a Challenger trailing) and 60+ cars Oh YEAH! You can't tell me that's not cooler than a HO turbine pulling 20 cars on a average size HO layout.

Sad to say it but it seems that Walthers takes N-scale more serious than Athearn does, as far as new releases and reruns of previous models go. And that isn't saying much!!! In fairness to all manufacturers, though, it is a difficult market to have to do business with... one can only hope that more new items can yet be brought out, as the economy recovered.

Athearn did bring us the FP45/F45 to fill a gap for Santa Fe modelers.

This would not be good. Not good at all. It would have to join the list of all of the other locomotives I didn't pick up. Argggg! Oh well, I can have some consolation since most likely they will only be in UP or SP.

    Con Cor Veranda

I have both the Con Cor Veranda and OMI versions of the turbine, I find the Con Cor Veranda lacking in detail all around! I do not think the new one will be much beter, I would love to see Athearn do an N Scale version of there HO Turbines with extra tenders to boot!

True I admit but other manufacturers had 40 years opportunity to do one before Athearn had a go, unless you count the 1970 vintage Lima FP45.

On the other hand... Athearn still hasn't done a correctly detailed Super Fleet version like they have in HO, in N scale it's still just slap a different paint scheme on the same model.

The molds for the turbine are older than me, I will be turning 30 this year. The fact that this vintage 80's model sells out and commands high$$$ on ebay sometimes should be a clue to someone that a new version with higher standards is past due.

It's actually 70's vintage, 1975 to be precise according to Spookshow. It's probably about time it was completely retooled rather than updated.
