I have been off the forum for a while but I'm at it again... Layout at a Glance Name: CSX Georges Creek Subdivision Scale: N (1:160) Gauge: Standard 4' 8 1/2" Dimensions: 8' by 4' Prototype: CSX Operations on the Georges Creek Subdivision between Westernport and Frostburg, MD Era: 1990s Style: Table Based door layout Design: TBD Control: TBD Track: Kato Unitrack
Also panning on having a tourist railroad operating on the line. Using same benchwork from my attempt at the Sunset Route, the grades are 4%. A little steep but 2% wasn't tall enough. Hope to start on the cardboard webbing tomorrow or wensday.
Wow! Those are going to be some pretty steep grades! I think they far exceed anything CSX operates on. I don't mind though. I think it will be neat to watch a few locos pull a nice long coal drag up those hills. :tb-biggrin: Be sure to include lots of pics as it progresses!
First 2% now 4%? This is almost as drastic as my county sales tax! Looking forward to following the progress of this layout. Jamie
Great theme, and a nice start on a plan! However, the Georges Creek Sub doesn't go to Frostburg, as that connection was severed in the 1950s after the WM takeover. Here's a page with some tidbits and CSX-era photos of the line: http://www.wvrail.railfan.net/georges_creek_sub.html Since you're building this on a 4 x 8, you should have plenty of room for a condensed version of the Luke paper plant below Westernport (a modified Walther's power plant might do as a basis). At any rate, I'm looking forward to seeing progress on your layout. Again, this is a great theme for a layout!
I just spied on Walthers that they make the Superior Paper Co. Kit, which would be a perfect stand-in for the Westvaco plant.
