Time once again to see what everyone is up to modeling wise this weekend.

For me, I'm knee deep in the Galesburg RR Days Tribute Locomotive in N scale. I hope to finish with all the details on Saturday and start using my new airbrush on Sunday. I'll also be spending time here updating info on my blog for this years Galesburg RR Days show. Maybe if I get time I can start two T-Trak modules.

So, what do you have planned? Leave your comments below, as always pictures of progress is good.

Aw, I've gone and gotten myself spread too thin again. After a couple of months of being very focused, I went out and bought a GP9m on sale at Walthers. ($38.95 for a new engine, though, ain't bad.) DC only, with a single hard-wired light bulb for the headlight, and no rear light at all. Yesterday, I picked up a Tsunami and speaker for it, and I've got LEDs and detail parts, so it will be going into the shop over the weekend.

I also picked up a bottle of Blacken-It. I've been planning to weather my steamers, and this should do the job for the shiny moving parts and any other metal I don't want to spray paint around.

I'm taking all of this as a sign that I'm not ready to do the scrapyard yet.

Ops at my house this weekend. I'm having four guys and I think it will be much too crowded. I've never operated with four guys and four throttles before so I might as well try. I decided that if it is too much we will just park trains and go to the engineer-conductor manning phase.

After that I hope to paint a US Army GP20 in red. I am airbrushing Tamiya paint for the first time. I plan to make sure it is very thin.

Waiting for the basement to dry. We had a huge storm roll thru and I'll just say I had some leaks. So after it drys I'm headed to the hardware store for cement and sealant paint. Hopefully that'll take care of it, and I can get back to building the layout(s).

Hopefully, get some of the "street" down for my newly sceniced area at the Club. Got all the static grass down, and weeds, last week.

Probably nothing train related but maybe, just maybe will build the table for part of the expansion.

I'm going to Roanoke this weekend and next week for vacation, but I'll go to Rail Yard Hobbies and buy stuff more than likely.

Tonight and possibly tomorrow I will be continuing work to reshape a mountain and add a waterfall on the club layout before the county fair openhouse. Tonight will be painting some rock molds and breaking out the rotozip to expand a pond into a plunge pool.

Here is my just finished GP20 USAX4643. My first time with Tamiya paint. To make it look shiny, I finished it with a semi-gloss coat as suggested by Jim Wiggin. It sort of follows this picture but not an exact prototype. Still a little weathering to go.

This is supposed to be a GP20E ex-Cotton Belt locomotive. It does look like it with the removed headlight package, but there are no dynamic brakes.

Wow! That GP 20 looks great! What did think of the Tamiya paints?

I Got a little bit accomplished today. I tried using some coffee stirrers to make the tunnel porthole. And while I was busy on the band saw cutting everything up I came back to the layout and BAM!!! A few trees have sprouted up. Took me by suprise.

Well, I got distracted from my distractions, and ended up right back on course.

From left to right, Beaver Street runs past some shops, across the road to the fire station, and past the foundations of yet another version of Merchants Row 2, as yet unbuilt. I've been trying to get to this forever. I bought a bunch of Blair Line grade crossings, which simplified the 4-track roadway a bit. The pavement is Durhams Water Putty, colored with a wash of cheap acrylic gray paint. The road extends all the way to the aforementioned scrapyard, which at least got its chain-link fence installed.

No work on the decoder, no work on the steamers, but I put in a solid day on the road, and ballasted track as my Bruins fell to Vancouver yet again. Well, they started out 0-2 against Montreal, right?

That looks great Mister Beasley! Was the Durhams hard to work with? I've been toying with using the stuff.

I like them. They are like other acrylic paints to use. I can see that you get better if you do a lot of it, like most things. I didn't thin it at all and it was fine. I used a no. 3 tip and 20 psi to spray. It is easy to get orange peel is you hold the air brush too far away. This model is sealed with Testors Acryl semi gloss to replicate a newer engine; otherwise, the Tamiya red would be even more shiny than it is.

It takes some getting used to. It mixes up into a light tan paste. I prefer to mix it thin, almost soupy. Then, I pour it on. I work it with a 1-inch foam brush, an idea I got from Bob Grech, a great modeler from California. Keep the brush clean and wet with a yogurt-container full of water. (My wife likes yogurt. I like the containers.) If you mix it too thick, it hardens quickly and you end up with a lumpy surface. A thinner mix allows you to push it into corners and up against ties or rails for grade crossings, etc.

I do my urban roads with a double layer of styrene sheet where the sidewalks are. I put down the first layer, and then lay the road flush with it. The second layer is the sidewalk, which then ends up higher than the street level.

Flash, that GP20 came out awesome! Nice work there:thumbs_up:

Danny, modeling distractions sometimes turn into more productivity, nice work!

MisterBeasley, nice work as always. The street scene is very nicely done!

I spent most of my weekend working on Galesburg RR Days work but the focus of my energy was spent on the Official 2011 Galesburg RR Days Tribute Locomotive I got all the details installed last night and it's ready for the paint shop. The MU and air hoses will be added once its out of the paint booth.

I have a thread in N scale if anyone is interested.

Well it looks like it was a productive weekend. Tune in this Friday, 6-10-11, when we do it again.
