The Milwaukee Road Depot in Harlowton is open this summer on a regular schedule for the first time since the Milwaukee left Harlowton. The depot will be open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons and by appointment at other times (phone number to get in is listed on the door). The community has spent over $100,000.00 to renovate the depot over the past few years. The depot is set to look like it did in about 1948. The renovations include new HVAC system, new plumbing, new electrical, new paint, new roof, new security system and the list goes on. The sole purpose of all the renovations is to create a historical place dedicated to the Milwaukee Road rather than a building that is used for other purposes (like the church in Deer Lodge). The N-Scale railroad club from Bozeman will put on a working display the weekend of June 18-19 so come and visit the Harlowton Depot!
The depot does not have website yet. Sorry but I have not figured out how to post photos but the building has a green (to match the original shingles) metal roof and is painted white with the dark grey "bottom" trim. The light grey will be added over the white after they get more funds. MRHA gave them the first money that got all of this started so thanks to Bob Storozuk and the gang at MRHA. Finally, the depot will also be open on Mondays this summer.
Boxcab, I had to detour deadhead through Harlow because of a washout on the tracks and flooding on I-90 between Livingston and Laurel about a week ago. The Milwaukee r.o.w. was the high ground in the flood area. The depot and old roundhouse were still high and dry then.
That's good news. Seems like enough streams have tried to re-locate themselves in recent weeks or new "lakes" have appeared. Boxcab E50
Last pictures I saw it was surrounded by water. And then the flooding became worse. I fear it got wet to some extent. As did too many other historic structures. Boxcab E50
