I bought this about 5 or 7 years ago & it never was a good runner & it stalled out on switches, so I put it in a box to collect dust. A few days ago I brought it out of the box, not to run, but to put it on blocks. Here is what I did. I took out the motor, took off the drivers & rods, I added a brass plow & platform, I cut off & trimed the front door, I inserted tubes in boiler after I caut off the fron part of metal housing, I weatherd it with grey, dirt, grimey black & rust paint. I took the tender & cut out the coal load, glued in a bottom. I put booth of these track side on blocks. I added some weeds around it, trucks, wheels. In my opinion, this is the best looking & best use of an older style Bachman locamotive I have seen. In Bachmans defense, there spectrim line is pretty good & they have come a long way.....but not on this one. It was an 0-6-2 now its a 0-0-0. It has definately "seen better days."....lol. Comments welcome.....
Very nice use of your Bachmann loco. Maybe you should forward these photos to Bachmann and see what happens. Jim
To Bremner, I forget who made the plow, I bought it about 5 years ago as well. To boxcab50. guess it could be left up to the imagination of the viewer, I guess it could go either way, lol. I am going to get a set of 3 LED lights in blue that flash on/off at diferent times & install inside the wood shack to simulate welding. The LED's run on a 9V bat. & comes with an on/off switch & it has 14" of lead wires. They sell for about $9.00 plus S&H. I get my LED's from Evans Desighns in Broomfield CO. I am also entering this in the August contest of the NCMRC club. The contest is called, "Seen Better Days." I think it fits
Maybe I was a bit rough on Bachmans older stuff....I did give them some kudo's on the spectrim line. I bought a 2-6-6-2 from them last year. It runs good, no complaints here.
Better pics with more details added I decided to take the scene out side in the sun light to get some better pics. I added some more details & I used my weed eater (scisors) to trim the weeds. After I install the LED lights I will secure the shanty to the base & add some weeds around the building.
