That paint scheme is not prototypical for an F7 that I can find. They are nice looking though.

You know Dave, nothing says "I'm sorry" like buying two sets of these!)

That's so true Joe. And nothing says it better than "hey, I'll buy it from Loren" I know, a shameless plug, but how else am I going to afford bail money? LOL

Joe, I will buy two sets IF you can help me locate an Alaska RR F7 AB set for a reasonable price.

That may be because the RI may have had no fewer than 7 paint schemes with several variations. They could be repainted to look like the GP9 MTL already released.

    It appears #100 is a '49 product.

The units by MTL may be too clean. Get some rust/dirt/oil on them.

When you said that, my first thought was "Did they do a blue F7?"

Most photos I've seen of the Rock Island are from the mid-60s, when it seems almost everything had gone maroon, or later. I know of the as-delivered cab unit schemes, but I'm not really used to seeing them, and I see how someone could make that mistake.

OK, OK, now that I have managed to pull my foot out of said mouth, what type of rolling stock will all of you RI F7A purchasers be pulling? I have seen the passenger cars that MTL put out; are they correct for these or would these have been primarily pulling mixed freight?

Don't worry. The RI story has a mish-mash of power. The true answer is it depends what era you are talking about to do what.

The RI was known to use anything to pull commuters. The MTL coaches would be too fancy. What we need is a set of Hallmark ornaments painted green (Tenshodo?) or someone to make a 3 car set of gallery coaches. Most likely the commuter F7's were painted in a billboard scheme similar to the MTL GP9.

The Rocket passenger trains not part of Amtrak were pulled by E's. You may find a E/F combo on other trains.

The MTL release looks mostly like a Rocket Freight. In later years you could rig up the B with the MTL GP35 to make an ABBA set pulling heavy coal trains. We may need DCC to have a F7-GP35-GP9-SD40 collection.

Best place to look up info is the RI Tech Society. They have several publications.

Please do. All information that shed some light on how it should look is of great value. I'm thinking of the note somewhere here that said that if you combine a F7A and F7B to a FP7 it could fit on a GP9/GP35 chassie. And googling around I found this page
