She left for Shreveport this evening. Glad I caught it before it did. SoBell2 by Hickory Shampoo, on Flickr SoBell by Hickory Shampoo, on Flickr
I'd have given a kidney to catch her in full sun. Or at least to have had my photo gear. Had to settle for cell phone shots.
How'd you get so close to the train? I figured I'd at least get yelled at where I was. Here's a photo I took of the KCS business train at Houston's Union Station, probably sometime in the mid 90s:
It was pointed the wrong way. Maybe it had just come up from that direction? A picture or two crossing the Brazos River would have been nice.
I have a brass pass, so... But there were a few railfans down there when I was there. One guy walked down the platform from the Amtrak station after checking with the KCSPD officer. Looks like you drove down Dart St, where it winds under I-45 and dead ends at the halfway house. AFAIK, there's nothing wrong with that, unless the halfway house complains. They (KCS folks) were more concerned with the train getting shot up or tagged than railfans. Those they expect. IIRC, it came in from Shreveport. I'm certain, however, that it was headed back to S'port that evening. Got that from the crew. They backed up to the Chaney Jct and took the freight main back east. Then up Hardy a little before picking up the Jackrabbit Line.
Thanks for the info. Yes, I drove down Dart St towards the halfway house. I had earlier driven to the Amtrak station but didn't get out. I guess I should have asked one of the cops if it'd be allright to take a few pics closer up, but I didn't. I'm sure their job is already tough enough without an idiot with a camera bothering them. :bear-nerd:
Chatting with the KCSPD officer, I got the impression they expect everyone from serious railfans to "hey...neat train" people. He seemed most concerned with vandals.
TrainDork, Can you post a link to the videos you took. Seems they got removed...no fault of your own. Thanks
