Well my wife got 86 for 50-59 and she said wouldn’t be able to do it because her eyes were bothering her. :pbaffled::plaugh:

    Your score: 23
For a color deficient 34 year old I don't know what to think...

The first and last block are "fixed"...they wont move. The object is to get the rest of the colors in the right order to 'fade' (like a rainbow) from first through last

Hmm...I got a 19...which wouldn't be too terrible even if it was out of 99. Though by the end I kinda got bored and just moved em to wherever looked close. I'm kinda disappointed though...I figured that since I spent a lot of time looking at colors for both architecture and graphic design I'd score better! Oh well!

Is there supposed to be 2 lines per each group or one?

I have 2 lines and I thought I did pretty good except for the ones on the second line. they will not line up with the two end blocks.

Probably depends on your computers screen size. I only had the last block on a second line.

Looks like my weakest results were in the yellow-to-green range.

So, should the ones on the second row line up with the 1st fixed block or the last fixed block?

Well now I got a 27 but I don't trust that second row, I don’t think its adding it correctly or I’m going from the wrong end. Anyway I think I’m done.

Think of the second row as an extension of the first....

    As an example:

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    XXXXX

    Is the same as:

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    :tb-wink:

Drag and drop the colors in each row to arrange them by hue order.
The first and last color chips are fixed. Click on "Score Test" when done.

The first colored block is the 'starting block' (fixed position) and everything fades from one color to the next by a small degree...untill you end up at the 'last block' (also in a fixed position) . Moving one colored block at a time to a new place in the line will end up giving you a sorta rainbow effect of hues. Each whole line ( including the second line in each test line) should be all the colors fading from one to the other...in hues. Each test pattern starts anew with a different starting and ending colored square. There are 22 total colored blocks per 'test pattern'. There are (4) different 'test patterns'... :tb-wink:

Yes...you will need medication or at least a beer or 2 by the time you are done...LOL :tb-biggrin:

If you are still confused...have those 2 beers and call it a night....lol

I have a stock Dell 15" diagonal monitor. However, the resolution is set to 800 by 600 (so I can read stuff--believe me, I've messed around with font size and settings enough.) For me, the result is that the little squares measure about 5/8" X 5/8". I have to scroll to see the whole row. I would think the size of the squares would make a difference in one's ability to differentiate the hues.

The other thing I did was a matter of strategy. First I moved the squares to one end or the other or to the middle based on first read. Then I worked from left to right to fine tune the order. My final step was to "proofread" the row by moving each square one position out of order (third square to the second position, fourth square to the third position etc.) This enabled me to correct very small errors, since the individual hue appears more defined in and out of order.

The result was a zero, but philosophically I disagree that it should be considered a "perfect" score. Seems to me that someone who could achieve the same score more quickly, without going through all the finetuning and proofreading, could see much better.

Other complicating factors: my left eye sees things more warmly (very slightly orange) compared to my right eye. Plus now I wear glasses, so I can see the monitor much better.

Yeah, I don't really follow the outrage that seems to come from paint not matching peoples perception of the 'right' color (and right under what kind of lighting?).

Seeing the trains going in and out of one of CPs yards twice a day during my commute I'm regularly treated to 3 GPs lashed together with the same lettering but 3 entirely different shades of red - one 'Kato CP' red, one 'Atlas CP' red and one that's practically orange. Sometimes for fun they've got this little SW??? calf unit helping out which is also its own unique shade of red.

On the other hand the occasional string of CP boxcars (it's mostly tankers and auto carriers) seem to have rather uniform Kato red paint job, at least without a second string to compare them to.

If you just take what you start with, you get a score of 985. So your scores are all really good. Which means you can all complain loudly about colors being "wrong". Oh noes!

No time limit on this, either, so you can whip out your colorimeter and measure. It's not like for those folk who saw the Super Chief flash past 40 years ago at 60 mph and can tell you the exact shade of red it was. You should then ask them what they had for breakfast that day. Or even today, but no fair looking at the stains on their shirt or blouse.

If you are color deficient, this test has little to do with that. I'm pretty sure you can largely discriminate variations in hue, like the ranges in bluish green/greenish blue, but you might mix up (for example) specific red and green shades that are "obviously" different to others.

Also by the scores, monitors don't seem to be a problem except for maybe image size. Zooming out sure helped me a lot. And right there is part of the problem in N vs proto, the perceived color relative to object size. Plus the amount and type of lighting is a huge factor; not many of us N scalers run in full sunlight all the time. Not to mention color perception by film (remember that stuff?) and changes made by aging (the film and us, too).

And then there's remembering a specific color. Here's a perception test, if you haven't seen this before - follow the instructions given on the screen:

So heck, I'm changing over to modern Norfolk Southern power to avoid the arguments. Uh, so are those things black, blackish black, intense black, neutral medium black, what?

I scored a 4. Not bad for a 62 year old male with severe vision problems.

I can't help but wonder if the computer screen messes with this test at all, changine the lighting at all. I managed a 77...
