Wasn't able to make it to the show, but I'm excited to see the announcement for Bachmann's new 2-10-2. For those of you who went, did they have a pre-production sample to look at? I was wondering if it had traction tires like their heavy 4-8-2? I'm very interested to see what kind of pulling power this will have.

    WARNING: large PDF:
    http://www.bachmanntrains.com/2011_NMRA.pdf
the loco info is towards the bottom.

If release is indeed August, then there soon should be larger pix than these to tell if there are TTs. Note that the middle drivers are blind FWIW.

Wow, just noticed the MSRP on the 2-10-2. Am I reading it correctly, $300 for a non-sound equipped model?

Same MSRP as the 4-8-2 Heavy Mountain. Which means retail will be much less.

The features I have gathered from various forums.

Very well weighted, including pilot and trailing trucks.
    Die-cast boiler.
    Three unique tenders.
    Working backup light.
    Southern valve gear.
    Two axles with traction tires.
Blind center driver, matching the prototype.
    Working front coupler.

One respected online retailer is already taking reservations at $225, I don't think anyone will actually be paying $300.

Hmmmm? I think I might be needing a DM&IR excursion engine.

    Spectrum.... ????

Not that it necessarily matters... but... Bachmann used to have two (or three) price points for their models to distinguish them from the ordinary Bachmann 'toy' quality to the 'Spectrum' hobby quality models. The Ten Wheeler was an ordinary Bachmann issue which was actually a really good model... not 'toy' quality. I wonder if Bachmann is no longer using the 'Spectrum' moniker to distinguish the hobby quality products... and basically... making everything under one name now. Is the 2-10-2 going to be a regular Bachmann or Spectrum???

The 2-10-2 and Doodlebug are Spectrum. All others are Standard Line

I have heard that Bachmann wants to raise the quality of the standard line and eventually do a way with the Spectrum name. I don't know if this is true or not. I have the ten wheeler, which is a standard line model, and it is superb. The detail is very good and it runs like a champ. If they keep making standard line items like this they can eventually let the Spectrum name fade away.

You've got me thinking now. The DM&IR often hired their engines out to other roads during the winter months when the Great Lakes ore boats weren't operating to make a bit of money on the side. That DM&IR 2-10-2 does look good.

I amalso looking at the posibility of a SP Decapod (the SP called them that, after all, they could not call them a Santa Fe)

Had a problem with the PDF text, I'm sure there was a typo in it there. Bachmann meant to state that the B & O EM-1 was going to be made in N-SCALE, didn't they? DCC w/sound?!?! YEAH BUDDY!!!!
I wonder if the B-mann 2-10-2 will pull as good as the Con-Cor 2-10-2's? I got about 7 of the CC 2-10-2's and cannot find fault with any of them. I re-did some of the power pickup's, but even the stock, as released, models run smooth. Hopefully B-mann will upgrade almost all of their Steamers and gain a lot of business.
