600$ for that!!!! OMG thats just crazy talk. and LMAO at the mountain over rails! Why is this guy such as bad guy? I still don't get why. I want to hear this story in detail, this could be a classic z train story that gets N scalers and HO scalers in here to see it hahaha
The seller did NOT build either of the layouts. He had someone build them for him. Long story that's not even worth writing about.
I hope any newcommers NOT read this thread, specially a young kid that want to build his empire, but find out that what he can build is met with so much negative comments. I think if I was 6-10 years old I would have been in heaven having this 2 layouts. So many trains, so much tracks, and so much fun. But all this adults telling me that the layout is crap. I think we all should respect each others way to practice the hobby a little more. Out there, there are all different qualitys on layouts, from things similar to this and up to masterpieces that are unbeliviable good and something for us all to strectch after. We need all good PR we can have, specially to attract young people. We are fighting against all new technology and I am in a hobby that may dissapear when the adults in the hobby today are gone, if we cannot fill up with younger people. I know that many uf us would not have build a layout like this two, but this type of layout are also important for the hobby to survive.
Big difference. Kids don't have $600 to spend on a layout. If a kid built this he would be praised. I see what my young grandson can do [and can not do] and if this was the result for his attempt so be it...but he would not seriously ask $600, nor would he claim it to be "beautifully detailed" as compared to a layout one might see in a magazine. He would KNOW he's not an expert and the next one would improve immensely. ...don
I think the problem is that it *looks* like a 10 year old built it, but the seller is asking a professional price. I have no problem with the layout. If someone wants to buy our proructs, they are free do do with them as they like. My comment is that I do not think it is worth the price he is asking, but that will be the buyer's problem, not mine. -Rob(A) (Speaking for myself, not AZL)
I am not a professional by any means and I believe we should welcome and encourage all skill levels. "However"....This layout is not presented as a layout from a beginner seeking a critique /support/whatever. It's being presented as a professionally done layout for sale. So yes, in this case crap should be called crap.
Maybe I over looked it, but I don't see the layout in question on Ebay today. Someone may have purchased it? Or hopefully someone broke into the house and trashed it......I know, not nice. But never fear, there is yet another top notch layout appearing on Ebay that is almost as questionable as the one aforementioned. It is not advertised as being top notch so at least there is some honesty in advertising going on here. Still a tad high for what I would be willing to offer. http://cgi.ebay.com/Z-scale-one-kin...945797?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item56405bce05
if that was built by a 10 year old, great first layout....if that was built by a 20 year old, um....say it was built by a 10 year old!
But then, Hey, if you don't like those guys' stuff, you could always spend $99.00 on the Invisible Layout! Love the 2x4 sides. Real heavy duty. http://cgi.ebay.com/Z-N-SCALE-TRAIN...425341?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item3cbab470fd
You know, as I looked at that case, I was inclined to scoff at the overall quality and lack of any pizazz. I read through the description and then a thought hit me. "This guy is probably like many of us, just trying to find a way to either contribute to the hobby to some degree, something of value as he sees it, or perhaps he is just trying his hardest to make an honest buck the only way he knows how" These are tough times for many, and many are scrambling and scratching their heads, trying to figure out some way to just stay above water these days. Some modelers are top notch skilled craftsmen while others are clumsy at best with a hammer and saw, so while I find this particular piece of work definitely not something I would ever consider, I'm going to curb my tendency to critique too harshly and give the guy a thumbs up for at least trying to just survive in this up side down world. No more looking down my nose....we're in this leaking tub together.
WHAT is the purpose of this entire thread? Is it contributing anything to our scale or Trainboard? Since Trainboard seems to enjoy censorship and moderating... this seems a perfect thread to delete completely.
