Folks- Everyone who has posted in this thread either knows or should know Trainboard's policy. There are good reasons for this policy. Cute "ways around" the policy are not appreciated, no matter how well crafted they may be. Trainboard is a private board for its members and has its rules. If one wishes to debate the pros, cons, and intricacies of the First Amendment right to free speech may simply do a Google search for "First Amendment" + "forums", find a forum and espouse your views there.
Yup. She has the 4-8-4 to pull her 5+ car consist. I want her to have the 2-8-0 to pull her little 3 car set...all older pullmans ;-)
First of all it is danged light 2-10-2 and I need a heavy. Plus a Belpaire firebox. So maybe they will eventually relase a heavy version like they did with the Mountain. Then I'll see about a Belpaire and a big Vandy to follow it.
George, I bet that a 4-6-0 would look real nice pulling some of those Athearn passanger cars too. .....Mike

Mine just arrived and I am impressed!!!The detail is fabulous and she runs extremely smooooooth, with those little 57" drivers barely turning. Very quiet, too. I haven't done any real testing yet, but she pulled a 28 car train I happened to have in the yard on the level, smoothly. I think Bachmann has another home run!!! It also appears to be properly dimensioned, next to it the Con-cor is a monster. The only immediate beef is the drivers are not particularly well detailed, like the B- Mann 2-8-0, and the couplers, especially the front one, are just too big for my taste. Shouldn't be too hard to replace. Overall, my initial reaction is an A.plus. We've never had it this good....Regards, Otto
Thanks for the report Otto. Looking forward to getting one. Looking at Victor's photos of the frame, which shows the extra room behind the motor, considering attempting a model of ATSF 2568 decapod. Will have a better idea when the model is in hand. BTW, Otto, the roundhouse is on hold until this blasted hand heals a little more. Finger tip still gets a bruise if too much time spent with Xacto knife. Doing little projects to get some callous built up.
Looking forward to getting some results of how well it pulls. Pulling a 28 car train is very promising. Looks like I might spring for a few - just have to wait for someone to have them in stock. For those of you who have received them, can you provide some pics? Not much available except the standard front 3/4 view. Close-ups would be great!
Can you post a picture with it next to the Concor 2-10-2. Would like to compare the size to see if it could have possibilities for a GN unit with a Belpaire added.
The engine is advertised as having a die cast boiler, die cast frame and die cast cylinders plus two sets of traction tires. I would think its pulling ability would be very good. That isn't the issue on the Atlas board though. The issue there was basically about its price. The argument being that the mechanism is basically that found in the J model 4-8-4 but the price is substantially higher. So, the argument is, what is there about the locomotive that demands a higher price? Bear in mind that the price difference is not minimal. The 2-10-2 is about twice the price of the J model. The question remains unanswered. Also in the thread on the Atlas forum there is a photo of the Bachmann Light and Concor Heavy 2-10-2's together. The Concor model is noticeably longer and many people find that objectionable. To me the extra length does not detract from the locomotives appearance. These things were big and the extra length seems to accentuate that. Still of you are a purist...
As far as price goes with this loco the MSRP is similar if not the same as the heavy mountain. It has to be a completely new frame tooling for the extra drivers and a new body. Now most likely it shares components with the heavy and light mountains rather than the J. Even the newer J is an older technology than the last few releases. And when I looked at the discounted prices on this and the mountain I found not much difference. I am now going into my Zen state of higher thought, and going out on a limb to make a couple of calls. I think a heavy 2-10-2 will follow, then I believe with the chassis in hand for the light and heavy mountains, and a little tweaking, we will eventually see a new northern come out. Hopefully not another GS or Santa Fe type quite possibly an A-3 NP Northern since one is still running as SP&S 700 which is basically an oil burning A-3. Okay out of Zen state, where's the aspirin? However I would still like to see the Bmann unit beside the Concor unit since the Concor is a heavy 2-10-2. GN converted the P-1 class Mountains into 2-10-2s thus this latest release may be adequate for that.

Ok picked it up this morning. Have been running it for about 2 hours, and it has to be one of the smoothest running locos that I have . Just as good as the Kato 2-8-2 , and the Bachman 2-8-0. Still running it on straight DC , Will have to see how the decoder works later. No problems at all ran nicely straight out of the box. Definately a good locomotive. So go get em guys!!!
Just read the review on Spookshow's site as well - sounds like Bachmann has another winner! Now if we can just convince them to produce the Berkshire!!
Well, I put mine through its paces, definitely a winner! It may be a 2-10-2, but it is quite small and for a smallish loco, it pulls extremely well. It weighs in at a hefty 3.6 oz, 4.7 oz with tender, compared with the Con-cor heavy, which is way oversize and substantially bigger in all dimensions and weighs 4.5 oz (loco alone). For comparison purposes, the Bachmann Consolidation only weighs 2.1 oz. Unfortunately, my PC is still dow, can't post any photos.Overall, I am VERY PLEASED, thank you Bachmann!!!Regards, Otto
Thanks for the update Otto, so looking forward to getting one. If it tracks well in reverse without the trailing truck, just gotta try a conversion to the ATSF 2565 class decapods.
