Hello! I'm in the planning stages of building an N scale railroad. I'm looking for some on- line info on how to get started. It's been about 9 years since my last set up and I want to do a much better job this time around on landscaping and buildings. I just kind of winged it last time and I would like to take it to the next level. Are there any good tutorial web sites out there? Thanks, Trevor
Hi, TrevorT, There are many good web sites out there. I'd start by checking out the Woodland Scenics (WS) web site, their scenic material has worked very well for me. Their material has all the natural colors and so you aren't forced to spend any time trial/erroring to get the colors right from non-model railroad items. Since scenery comes in so many colors and flavors, I would build a small diorama and experiment. (WS has kits exactly for that purpose). After you play around with the WS kits, your sense of style and color more than anything else will determine how realistic it becomes. Feel free to check out my Community Webshots home page to see my scenery progression: http://community.webshots.com/user/atsf_arizona No affiliation with WS, just a very happy customer. Go buy the Woodland Scenic layout with the Atlas track pack that is made for it. Building that thing will teach you sooooooo much about every aspect, including time needed to build a layout. It is the best money I ever spent when I built their HO layout. I have sinced moved on to a bigger freelanced N scale layout, but my boys now have the HO layout to play with.
