TBX, and by that I mean I, aquired two pairs of engines lettered fro Rock River Valley. (I'm a sucker for private Roads). I want to patch them into lease-fleet that looks believeable and covers the requirements, but I don't want to loose their heritage. Rock River Valley RR is on the long hoods, it looks like a home-prin decal that is partially washing out on the turquise underneath it.

What do I need, and what has to go?

(And before you say it, I LIKE that turquise color. Not on everything, but it alright for these)

I would patch out the loco number and RRV on the cab sides. Leave the name on the long hood. Some what like UP did with the Rio Grande locos...http://www.flickr.com/photos/knelson27/4559866794/ That way, you get your road name and number, and still keep the heritage of the unit...BTW I like the greens...

    Hi there.
I have 2 suggestions for you: 1) Do like the C&S did. They used BN engines and just put "C&S" under the BN logo on the short hood. Do the same with the lease fleet. 2) In last months' issue (or 2 months' ago) of Model railroader there was an article on a lease fleet using UP sd70 macs. All they did was paint a thin black stripe through the UP logo. Then they put there reporting marks under the short hood. Hope this helps.

SD-60 001.jpg Hi Morgan, this is a photo of a Soo Line SD-60 I patched out for CEFX leasing. The photo in the background is of the prototype locomotive that is leased out to the CP. The decals are "home brewed", but as you can see it's pretty straightforward. Just a black bar through the original logo, and CEFX under the loco number on the cab sides. Hope this helps. I have a thread on this topic in the N scale forum, rather than go into detail here, a quick run down. Most roads cover the original roads name, reporting marks and road number and logo with either the color black (most common) the new owners color or the previous roads colors. Here is an example of what Conrail did to a Reading lines locomotive.

I did this on two ex-UP units for a friend's railroad.

I just used Pinesol to fade the lettering and numbers, and decaled his RR over them. And used a patch over the UP herald on the nose.
