http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=228&day=2011-10-15 Any Southern CA people heading down to San Pedro this weekend? This is THE swap meet if you're an N scaler!
I will be there with TJS909,JOEW & JJ. We will bring lots to sell and take back far more than we leave/ The only bummer is that the Roundhouse gang are having their swap meet the same day.
No, it's at a community center in Riverside. Thing is, The Roundhouse Gang puts on a swap meet quite a few times a year and the amount of N scale items vary, whereas the Belmont Shore swapmeet is only twice a year and is always predominantly N scale.
Cool, look for a dude wearing either a Pacific Electric or a London Undergound t-shirt! I might be selling stuff as well.
I may just see you there. This is the one I took you to where Bob and Jeff showed up. It is next to Sears. Sorry Elson, l won't see you. I went to one of their shows in the early 90's and was impressed, but I must admit that the last show was a bit of a let down. Thats OK though as I mostly wanted to see the layout anyway, although I found someones wife who was quite willing to make a deal on a four car set I was interested in. The husband was not flexible when he was at the Roundhouse swap meet. I sure do hope to see her agian.:mtongue:
Wait, the last show, as in this past Spring? I was there, don't remember seeing you there. I did see a bunch of DI containers on sale though
Elson, the last show I attended at the barracks was late '09 or early '10, and I did not see you there. There were only about 6 people attempting to sell. Which show might you recomend to be worth an hour and a half drive?
Ah, so - now I remember - the show was a bit of a let down last time we went. I did enjoy Belmont Shore - too bad we live so far out, however.
Put down the bong man. You know the Belmont shore club is in your old stomping grounds. The Roundhouse Gang meet is next to Sears in Riverside off Arlington and Streeter. I was thinking of hitting the Roundhouse Gange at 7:30(openning) and then move on to the Upland clubhouse where Bob and Jeff are hosting a workshop.
I would have liked to go it but it’s just a little too far for me and I hear there is going to be some construction road closures that I don’t want to deal with
For me trying to get off this hill via the circuitous mountain roads isn't fun anymore. I pretty much keep my day trip boundaries to Riverside, San Bernardino, Victorville and/or Barstow, CA. Sounds like a good meet. I hope everyone who attends find's what they are looking for, at better then fair prices. Have fun and some for me too!
Had a good time as always, was real slow when we first showed up but the sky's were clear & the deals GREAT! one fellow had a bunch of Kato/Atlas engines with added details going for 20-40 dollars I scored on my last Kato U30C for my Kaiser ore train 30.00 and a ton of MT cars at 5.00 ea.(cant have to many). Bruce from B.S. had a large box of undecorated 70 ton ore cars for only 2.50 ea. I also had fun selling to the young kids who show up,I love the look on there face when they offer me say 5.00 for a car and I say sorry I wont take more then a buck-for-it. This hobby has been so good to me that I love to share it with the young ones. How do they say it? pass it on.
Yup! I also scored an Atlas UP GP35 from that table! Tested it out inside and ran like a charm. Only $30! I also scored a bunch of DI containers, like I thought I would Which table were you? There weren't very many vendors this time, but it looked like over 90% of the items were N scale!
Here's what I scored from Saturday's Belmont Shore Swap Meet! 9 packs of Really Hard To Find DI containers: $94 Atlas UP GP35 loco: $30 Mission-style warehouse building: $5
nice score, we need train board hats or something so we can spot members at get togethers. we were the 4 good looking guys(haha) with the three tables behind my avalanche truck. I had the old school suitcase filled with VHS tapes.
The weekend 10-17-2011 we joined up Bill (the wheel man for this operation) JJ and Tom. It was on now for the Belmont shores N scale swap meet. Although its a little bit of a drive, the four of us friends carpooled down from the IE to San Pedro for this event. For this trip it meant getting up earlier than I normally do "4am". Then on to Rendezvous at Bill's at 5:30am. Unfortunately I was the late one(sorry guy's) I hope they'll still invite me again sometime. Anyway I hadn't participated in a lot of swap meets so I just grabbed the box from the previous weekend swap meet. All of this stuff I had been meaning to sell on Ebay but hadn't got around to it yet. Although the stuff I sold would have probably fetched more on Ebay the experience would have been void of getting out with friends and other like minded people who enjoy the hobby. Upon arriving at the Belmont Shores compound one of the guys said "Oh No its that guy". Upon looking out the front windshield I look and see the Tomcat and he was in full form out on the prey. You'll find him bending the ear of many swapper or otherwise scooping up all the best deals at most every model railroad event in SoCal. Then upon driving further up we see Chuck and the table of Athearn (and a few other goodies) Across the way was more sellers, one of whom had some great deals one of which I could not pass up a LL SD9 detailed and painted SP BW. Bruce and his N scale multi-table sensory overload. It was great. One of the special moments at the event happened at the end when Bill had a negotiation with a youngster. The young man made an offer to Bill of Five dollars on one of Bills items. Bill said no way that's way to much and then proceeded to negotiate his own item down to a buck. Of coarse the youngster was elated but so was Bill and so was I. All in all it was a great deal of fun. Thanks Bill for driving and thanks Tom and JJ for the camaraderie you're the coolest.
Hi Joe! I was the guy who asked about the West Palm Springs depot model! SWEET PE Etiwanda depot model you had on display there! I bought that little mission-style structure from your friend. See ya 'round!
