Good lord that is amazing! His abilty to blend the backdrop into the scene is nothing short of amazing on any scale. Peco what???? Meh...who cares, that layout is off the hook!
Yeah unless you are looking straight down or zoomed near a turnout, as long as its code 55 its very hard to tell the difference between peco c55 and atlas c55. Even though I love the Atlas c55 on my layout, It has its own problems. Mike Danneman's original layout and the Carolina Central layout are what got me off my armchair. Mike Danneman is one of my favorite photographers, model and proto.
By the way, if you don't have Mike Dannemann's Painting Backdrops for Your Model Railroad I highly recommend it. Not only is it a fantasic learning tool for backdrops, it has tons of eye candy from his layout. Jamie
I finally got my issue in the mail... All I can say is WOW!!! As others have noted, Mike is an incredible artist, but beyond and under the artistry is a very solid design concept based on the real world Moffat Road; this layout has good "bones". The artistry and craftsmanship are obvious, but the design and engineering are just as impressive and together create one of the finest proto-based model railroads anywhere in any scale. Also amazing is the fact the this is the work of one man over a relatively short period of time. Again, WOW!!! Regards, Otto
