Undecorated... bought years ago at a model train show. Don't remember any specific plans then nor have any now. My modeling is freelance but I do tend towards the modern eras (80's to present) and local lines (CSX, NS (Conrail)) but am open to suggestions. Thoughts?
If you model CSX and Conrail in the modern era, you could dress up this pair of E8s to look like PRR 5711 and 5809 as shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQf4jaMS82s
I have one of those in Wabash colors. Runs like a dream. If I had it undecorated, I would paint it in the old CN passenger scheme (green-yellow-black) like those they purchased recently. I like the Pennsy idea.
I second the motion. If I'm not mistaken Conrail had a pair of E8s (could be these) painted in a Conrail scheme for their business train. Either way would be a good choice, depending on your particular perspective. OR...you could just mail them off to me, I'm sure I could find something to do with them...:tb-tongue:
... and I just missed the letter carrier... I'm debating about some classic scheme from the late thirties through fifties... course, those have been done to death.
Yep - those are the ones I'm thinking of. I stumbled onto pics of them this week while I was looking for something else. They looked pretty classy to me.
i have an diea i know ns used f unit's but why not do them up like ns did for there buisness train would look sweet in my opinion or the freelance railroad idea as well both would be good.
I'd do the City of New Orleans. Illinois central had a really nice look and is way under modeled. I wouldn't explain why it was on my layout, I'd just run it and hum the song softly while I did.
Funny, I thought it was Brunswick Green (which, to be honest, almost looks black).......but I could be wrong.
You are correct - going from memory I couldn't be sure, but checking the pics again, they are green (but a really DARK green!). If I didn't have a million projects already, I'd add the Conrail business train to the list - those are some nice looking units. I wonder where they are now?
