i got lucky a few days ago not to catch one Ferromex sd70ace but 2 on the same train at each end dpu style the pics were taken at Skykomish Washington near the cascade tunnel hope you all enjoy these dpu :tb-biggrin:
Its like freight cars any more. No telling what you will see anywhere. It is always strange to me when I see UP or BNSF locomotives in New Jersey or Norfolk, Virginia.
So, what's up with these? Jim157, called to say he has seen a bunch of these in Denver, CO. and other locations in the South. I was wondering if these are the KCS units that were purchased to run on their tracks in Mexico? The name is throwing me off. You may need to join to see these but they've been through Bagdad, CA. as well. http://www.trainfoamers.com/phorum2/read.php?4,55345
"I was wondering if these are the KCS units that were purchased to run on their tracks in Mexico? The name is throwing me off." Nope, wrong railroad. Ferromex (FXE) is the Mexican railroad that UP owns a 26% stake in. The KCS subsidiary in Mexico is "KCS de Mexico", and their locomotives use the KCS paint scheme.
I saw two of those a few months ago down in Atlanta. It sure helps to keep things interesting when the power is just as diverse as the rest of the train.
Yes, I think TFM and KCS de Mexico are one in the same. Ed M, our local expert on things south of the border, can confirm
It was, but now renamed to KCS de Mexico. Still see old TFM locomotives on the KCS trains through here.
That's right. It was TFM from it's inception (when the railroads down here were divided up and concessioned to private enterprises to operate) back in 1995. iirc KCS had 49% of TFM. In 2005 KCS bought out the other major stockholder, TMM, and TFM became fully a KCS company. They changed the name to Kansas City Southern de Mexico later that year.
Shot two FXE E44ACs flanking a CSX AC4400 on the ex-Frisco this last Saturday. They were on the point of a Memphis-Tulsa manifest rolling thru Claremore, OK. Soon as I can get the video uploaded, I'll post a link here.
