Due to an injury and short hospitalization to David K Smith our TBS kit #3 will be delayed by at least 2 weeks depending on his recovery time. The masters and test models are done but the production required to put out a hundred kits will be significantly affected. Please join with me in wishing David a speedy recovery and thank you for your patience. Karin and David TBS
Best wishes to Dave and Karin. I owe him- it was reading his blog and seeing the possibilities that convinced me to get back into model railroading again. ...It's cost me a fortune... Yeah, I owe him!
Despite the hospitalization, I was still able to at least make the announcement for TBS #3. This month we present Jay Kay Appliances. As noted earlier in this thread, these kits will not ship for a week or two, but you can still place orders for them.
I will be ordering one also, but first, is it possible to order one in the original red brick color of the first kit produced? Although the blue is cool too, I really like the red brick color best?
Perhaps by the time the kit is released, someone can find a paint color to get it close to the other buildings? Then use white/cream/black for mortar colors?
I think that, because of our circumstances and lack of free time, it would be best if you guys painted the model as mentioned. Not only would it slow down production it could potentially become a record keeping nightmare. I hope you guys understand. I do believe you will very much enjoy this building no matter what color it ends up becoming on your layout. :beauty:
Karin is correct; custom coloration would be a bookkeeping nightmare, not to mention that it would add to the cost, because the buildings are cast in batches; a custom color would require casting just one kit, which is a lot more work and time. I've yet to see any model manufacturer that customizes the kit color (and if someone did, you'd be paying a premium for it). The color for this kit was chosen based on a particular prototype where the building was painted in two blue-grey shades. Painted brick buildings are extremely common in real life, and in some locales they outnumber bare brick structures. If you want a brick color, or some other painted color, then you'll need to consider painting it. As it is, the way this kit is designed, it's extremely easy to give the front two colors without doing any masking or hand brushing. Also, now that the kit is officially out, you can order them from one of our many dealers.
