What categories are you using for your spread sheet?

I had to create a quick one for the toy train museum from the current chaotic one and used these Column titles, in the order: road number, road name, category, description, color, manufacturer, manufacturer stock number, era, and columns for 2012-2015.

Since this will be a printout, there is no room for photos.

I need to make one for my train collection.

I use Easy Model Railroad Inventory which is really robust free-ware, and has basic reporting features for both collections and operations. There are several threads in Model Railroad Hobbyist on the program if you want all the tips and glitches.

I use Mac MoVe from Richter in Germany Link Is't not free but you can test it for 60 day. Interesting is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

I like it and use it on a mac.

Right now I am using an Excel spreadsheet. I have plans to use the Ship It software (installed but not much done in regards to data entry). I checked out some of the software listed here and they certainly are nice. I have downloaded a couple and will play with them somewhat. I had thought about creating my own application but why re-invent the wheel? :)

Right now I'm using a Self-made Access-Database. I have been using it for many years now and it is showing that. Not only are there many functions in it that I was at one time trying to use but there is also an obsolete Database Design.
Technically it is outdated to use an application that needs to be installed on the Computer.
It would be nice to have a cloud-based program useable with any Browser there is on any device there is.(PC, iPad, phones)
I don't know if there is a need for such an application. I know, though, that I would be using it, since my Layout is away from home and I don't take the Laptop with me every time I 'm working on the layout, but I seldom leave home without my tablet any more.

    Have Fun

I use an excel sheet, separate columns for various info, such as, roadname, road number, car type, car length, type wheels, type couplers, body mounted couplers (N scale), weathered or not, manufacturer, stock number

I use a Microsoft Works Database, with the fields in this order:
Status: Got, On order or Wanted/Perhaps
    Bought: New or Used
Roster: L for Loco, F, for Freight Stock, BV for Cabeese (as in the UK term Brake Van), XP for Express Passenger (Amtrak), MU for Budd RDC
Maker: Brand Name and Reference Number (as in Atlas 12345)
Model: Boxcar, Caboose, Flat Car, Hopper, or whatever
Capacity: Length of Boxcar or Capacity of Hopper or tank Car
Couplings: Usually MT but some are not!
    Group: Locomotive, Freight Stock, Passenger
Fleet Number: The operator's "Road Number"
Operator: Operating Railroad or private owner
Seller: Who sold me the vehicle
Remarks: Livery, or "Run as Pair", etc

    Cheers!
