Let me tell you about my latest purchase. I'm ready to start laying track on my new layout. I knew cork had been in short supply, so I was pleasantly surprised to find N scale cork roadbed available. What I was not aware of was supply problems with Atlas flextrack. You can't find code 80 flex by Atlas anywhere. I decided to switch to Peco since I use Peco switches anyway. Then I found it was short too, I suppose due to the shortage of Atlas. My LHS guy said he bought me the last 2 boxes (50 pieces) his supplier had available. What is going on with the track supply and when will it end?

I recently purchased a rail-baron Hiawatha Hudson! This little engine is awesome! The only glitch is that the driver pin pops out once in awhile. It will need some body modification. Any one got ideas on this locomotive ?

Splurged on an Overland Models AC4460CW. Been wanting one for a long time and I doubt anybody will make a plastic one although I sure wish Kato would. First brass piece I've bought and it will look great leading my UP "junk" coal train.

Got me 4 Shapeway N Scale Krauss Maffei shells.
Delivering 2 to a friend today.
A shot, showing the Shape way unit, compared to the Del Prado model.
Body and fuel tank mounted on a first run Kato SD45 chassis.
Mine needs a light primer coat though, so any extra details can be seen!

    Not even close!!
Maybe the addition of a few BLMA detail parts.
And a Rio Grande single stripe paint job!

Earlier, I ordered 4 "Comet II" coach bodies from Island Model Works so I can model 4 Amtrak Horizon Fleet cars for my Hiawatha set:
    comet-start.JPG

The detail is much better than the photo shows. Just a little cleanup and I should be on my way. I'll be shopping for a few cheap donor passenger cars to get seats and whatnot. The trucks and decals above cover most of the rest of what I need. I guess it's time to purchase some airbrush equipment and get a catalog of paints ready. Again, I don't know where to begin but I'll start digging around here on TrainBoard as I'm sure there is some expert advice to be had.

(I'd post a pic of the real-world coach but every one I find is copyright stamped)

    Not N Scale though.
Picked up an MTH 3 Rail Rio Grande GP35 this morning.
Not even out of the box yet!
    Complete with full sound!
Have the dummy unit ordered as well.
Just no clue when it'll arrive.
    Photo perhaps, when unpacked.

I bought a new house. I now have a bigger garage for a new layout. I have to organize everything, then I can get to work on planning. I have to find my given/ druthers list to see what I can fit in my new space. I'll get some pics up when I start working.

    Just arrived!
a Life Like E8 B unit painted for Santa Fe....
I remember when these first were released; I was involved in N scale in Austin, TX and was modelling modern era...I remember being impressed with the split frame mechanism and performance but aghast at the shape of the bulldog nose on the cab units...the later released E7 units were better but still shaped a little funky (if I remember correctly, these E8's with the nicer split fram actually were released before the E6 and Alco DL109s...the E6's still have an earlier open frame mechanism with the old 'worm' and heavy grease).
However they run beautifully together, the E8B can't suffer from the same mishape of the A unit, and the paint matches well with the E6's...
Another odd thing is the way LL decided to body mount the Raqpido couplers on this one...very odd and cumbersome,,,and, although I applaud the attempt, it just doesn't look good at all...
I've already used a spacer to mount a Unimate/Red Caboose 'low profile' coupler to mate perfectly between the E6 A and B unit. A etched stainless steel FARR vertical style slit grill is ordered from Plano Models (they manufacture one specifically for the LL units in addition to the ones they make for the Kato units..
...so this will also get the 'full' treatment:
    lift rings
    photoetched stirrups
photoetched grills with simulated 'see through' openings in the carbody
    Flat Aluminum painted trucks
I'm glad I found this on Ebay (quite cheaply I might add), I doubt we'll see another release of these LL E8 units (thank goodness because of the nose shape on the cab units) from Walthers, although I'd appreciate re-releases of the E6, DL-109's and the Erie Builts. Acquiring this one also saves me the expense of remotoring the E3's with Kato mechanisms to match my original plan to purchase a Kato E8B unit.
    Thanks for looking,
    Bruce

Just recently got in to N...but my most recent purchases were a Kato CSX SD70ACe, and the Kato Santa Fe Super Chief...found em both brand new on clearance from a huge store shrinking trains, to enlarge the RC section. Also grabbed a Kato Pacer Stack Train, and TTX stack train set, as well as the BNSF bethgon set.

    Special run for the NSC.
Got the C997 MP15 shortly after the NSC convention in Denver. And to date, this one
still has NEVER been run! On display, with matching caboose, and 4 Atlas Coors reefers.

I bought what must be a ton of BLMA parts, an Kato SD45 in Erie Lackawanna, Atlas GP-9 undecorated (will end up as B-unit between two CP Rail GP-9s) and two books about Penn Central and the Columbia Branch (runs between Centralia and Columbia,Mo.)...could be more but the money goes out soon^^
