I guess you could call this my "October" haul as I sort of geeked out. I picked up an Athearn Tank in ADM scheme. This is my first Athearn anything. I managed to FINALLY get an original Kato SD40-2 in NS scheme. I got it on eBay at $60 shipped. I've been looking for one of these for over a year. This particular one is missing the horns and the PO had tried to glue them back on, so down the road I may re-do the cab, just to clean the gunk off it and re-number the side as the font isn't right for NS. And my BLMA pre-order came earlier than expected. I pre-ordered 6 Top Gons in June I believe and didn't expect them until Christmas. They are really nice, I just wish I had a layout to run them on. And today I won a lot of Code 55 on eBay including 5 turnouts for $60. Not bad I guess. I still need 8 more turnouts... sheesh.
Yesterday I received M/T B&M bicentennial box car from NSE. I just learned of their bicentennial cars recently, so I've got some catching up to do !!!
When I was at the NMRA(BR) Convention I was tempted by the new Bachmann B&O EM-1 2-8-8-4. Really tempted. So I got one. But I model Western Roads. So, after a bit of reading, I converted it to a 2-8-8-2 DRGW Class L131. I added some more pumps and a top water feed, replaced the trailing truck with one from the light 4-8-2, added a Doghouse from an old Rowa Y6B, more coal and decaled and weathered it. Now it fits in with my other steamers. Attached Thumbnails
I just bought a Model Railroader mag at Wally World. Gonna cook up some dinner and read it whilst I eat New York Steak and rice...(the rice is in the cooker now). Cheerio! Bob Gilmore
WOO HOOOOO My Kato F40PH Amtrak 334 with ditch lights arrived! I did a quick test run before it went in the box until Christmas. But man is that stubby little eagle beautiful!!
Picked up a couple box cars (Soo and ICG) in N and another DZ125, plus a Loconet cable at Trainfest. Almost bit on a couple locos - N and HO - but I don't know enough yet to know a deal and I really should replenish my budget and build more layout before adding power.
I picked up one of the MT's Kanotex tank cars along with an Atlas B&O single sheathed box car. Also finally picked up the Southern Pacific Lines in Texas and Louisiana book. Fascinating book, expensive but nice. Then I slipped over to the dark side and picked up a couple DVD's, Lionel legends-The Hudson and Great Toy Train Layouts. Mark in TX
Just got back from Dupage Show. Found a Kato 4-car passenger set in BN. Picked up 2 custom-painted gondolas in DM&E and EJ&E, with steel loads. Also got an early B-day present. A Concor switcher custom-painted in ICG. Bought a 1/24 diecast Richard Petty Pontiac, but that probably belongs in a different thread !!!
bought a few things at ebay and flatcars kitÅ› from N-scalekit. Not on this picture is one Lifelike GP38-2 what was in a set with the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad cars and the katotrack sold as defekt and unused, fixed the engine fault ;-)
Picked up a Chessie SD40 & a Chessie C&O 90t hopper from ebay and a couple sets each of Chessie System Diesel and Seaboard System Diesel decals from Microscale. Plus received my order from Atlas for 3 un-numbered Seaboard System SD50 shells. Don't know why but un-numbered SBD SD50s are going for waaayyyy too much on the bay! Hopefully I'll have time to decal the SD50s soon and give the SD40 it's patch and CSX number.
Bought 3 sheets of rust decals spotted at Trainfest. If I can get close to the display, it sure beats any rust weathering I have attempted. Guys in the booth offered very good tips to get the best results. Dave G Cache Valley & Northern RR
I was bad at Trainfest this year. Picked up a laser cut church kit for the layout, crossing gates from NJ international for my Maywood Station module, two Fox Valley 50 fooot box cars for CV and B&M, some detailing tools from the tool man and a CB&Q F3 and coaches for a future project.
