I recently was on You Tube and noticed that Monster railroad had a few new videos out and after a long absence decided to click in on one. Much to my surprise it was informative as it has always been but clean language as well. I was pleasantly surprised; his work and information was always welcomed but his delivery in IMHO was lacking but not any longer. I quite enjoyed the video. Glad to see that he has made his new videos PG rated since a percentage of our hobby is shared by children. Cheers to Big Al hope he keeps it up
Naturally, I will reserve judgement until he has a rather lengthy new and improved track record, but if he has seen the light and has decided to join the adult world, more power to him. We could use his talents in the hobby.
I always enjoyed his videos even if his language was rated R. He has skills and if you don't mind the language(which I could really care less if he swears a lot) you could learn a lot. He has a lot of videos to watch if you got time you will learn something watching them. He's actually pretty entertaining too. Too bad he got banned from so many forums.
Well I peeked at a bit of three videos and he didn't seem foul mouthed at all. He did say damn at one point. Actually he seems like a prolific modeler. Thanks for bringing it up, I plan to watch more when I have the time.
NOw if only he improves on his video editing skills. A lot of the time he has the background music too loud, you could hardly hear what he's saying. And my worst Big Al Mayor video pet peeve, whenever he transitions from one scene to another, the dialogue fades ou... ...ther scene comes in and you can't really hear what's being said. Argh, I hate that!
Oh it's big Al. I remember him from Atlas forum. Everyone got all tee'd off at him, but he wasn't actually being rude, he's just a inner city boy and that's how guys there talk to each other. I always liked him because he was just into building his trains in his grimy little basement. It's good to see he's still building his layout. Gotta send the guy an email.
I have been watching his videos for some time and I do find him informative, entertaining and sincere. I will say if I was doing videos for the world to see, I would keep it PG but each to their own. I am not sure he was quite R either. He is very talented and shares allot of great information. I believe he is an asset to the hobby and who knows, he may actually appel more to younger modelers (teen and above) because he may appear more hip than the rest of us
Matt, Well said. Al is his own man. I seldom watch is stuff, but I was always entertained when I did. I'm 67 and I think he's great. Good for the hobby too. Jim
"Oh it's big Al. I remember him from Atlas forum. Everyone got all tee'd off at him, but he wasn't actually being rude, he's just a inner city boy and that's how guys there talk to each other." It was way more than just the casual use of bad language, which doesn't bother me at all. He seems to have some real personality problems and would go on wild ranting posts accusing people of being racist, and going wildly over the top with really foul attacks. Most of the posts were caught fairly early by the mods and deleted, so you may not have seen examples of his really excessive stuff. Then he'd pull a midnight attack on the forum and post foul stuff on a couple dozen threads that would keep the mods busy for hours trying to clean up. Banned, he'd continue to come back and pull the same stuff under new user id's. I agree that he does some good modeling, I like that he posts instructional videos (some of which are pretty good), and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But when he goes "off his meds" (so to speak), he's a real piece of work. I hope he has things straightened out, for his own sake.
