The LIRR tug MEITOWAX is done! I started this project sometime in Sep/Oct 2010 and just finished it today 6 Apr 2012. There was a lot of down time doing research, waiting for special parts to arrive, walking away from the project to take a mind break when I hit modeling brick walls, figuring out how to kitbash or stratchbuild parts and finding new photos of the tug and therefore having to make corrections to the model. This had to be THE biggest challenge that I have undertaken to date for my layout.

MEITOWAX was one of the Indian tribes on Long Island. Long Island appears by this name on Dutch maps from about 1631 to about 1775 (see http://www.matouwac.org/)

The tug started out as a Joe D'Amato wonderful tug boat which is now carried as a Nansen Street Model item.

Time for a mini-vacation for Easter then on to some easier parts of the layout.

    Enjoy,

    John

John, that's an excellent job. I am awed that you have achieved so much detail in Z-Scale, not only with Meitowax, but with the pierside scrap yard as well.

That's a really nice tugboat. I have one from a kit I made (N scale) but not that nice. The prototypes seem longer and a more narrow beam.

I especially like that last picture showing the freight cars and their placement on the barge.

Very nice model-John. Completly believable. Great example of crash bashing.

    NYandW,

Thanks! I am sure there are others modeling the LIRR in other scales but I can with certainty say that I am the only one modeling it in Z scale! Your tug page on Trainsarefun.com was an inspiration to me as I made this model.

    Yours,

    John
