Does anyone here check the AMTRAK job opportunities site?

Have they not been hiring conductors/brakeman for the last year - year and 1/2?

I see all sorts of jobs for trainmasters, superintendents, onboard services and assorted clerical but NO conductors,engineers,ass't.conductors.

There is one job posting for engineers for HSR in Boston under the High Speed Rail page and that's about it.

    Any thoughts or answers?

From what I've been told from some one at NJT, Amtrak doesn't hire engineers off the street. They look to experienced people from other railroads. There are training programs (communtiy college),or maybe a short line. Expect to work your way up.

    Thanx Doug,

I've already been there, I was just wondering if they were hiring trainmen.

Yes hiring trainmen they are listed as assistant conductor trainee. Salt Lake is hiring 5 right now. They are currently posted on amtrak.com. For engineer postitions they prefer hiring from within. If they have to hire from without they take licensed engineers only.

Charlie if you use the keyword conductor it will show those positions nationwide. I have applied 4 times for engineer out of Chicago and my application is in process on all 4 times. I have had a member of the brass hat variety drop my resume off with the person in HR.All I can say is that it is a joke. The engineer side is actually looking for "trainees" with no experience, but we do take certified engineers according to the post. Dont matter much to me really as I have an interview with Metra soon I hope.

My interview will be October 16th for Washington, D.C. to New York City. I'm on my 13th year at CSX and have been an engineer 9 of those years. I faxed my resume to HR and they called me THE NEXT DAY!!! Check the Union websites. I've noticed they have up to date info that is often not offered to the public. I found the listings on the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen site.

To follow up mine, am at Metra now and loving it. My cargo now talks to me and thats taking some getting used to. However hitting platforms at 40 mph and stopping before the end of it is freaking cool!
