    Jeff,

The black & yellow colors were used by Frisco on freight diesels from around the late 1940s until the 1960S, when the Mandarin orange & white scheme came out. The GP7s (of which Frisco rostered 128) sported a black scheme with a more elaborate yellow straping on each end of the hood.

When the GP35s first came to the Frisco, they wore the black & yellow paint scheme as pictured. However, it was only the first order of GP35s, which were delivered with larger fuel tanks which resulted in the air tanks being relocated to the roof of the locomotive (the so-called "torpedo boat" look). When the order that includes the 725 came out, they were in the orange & white colors. What you have is a good representation of the scheme as done on the first order.

As for the black & yellow scheme, some of the F-units and GP7s wore those colors into their retirement in the 1970s. All of the GP35s were in the O/W colors by the '70s.

Now, there are some of us Friscophiles who prefer the black & yellow over the O/W. I've seen some diesels which never wore the black in real life be modeled in black & yellow. Not prototypically correct, mind you, but it can be fun.

Very informative.. Thanks. I was thinking about buying that unit. He says it is like new.(yea Ive heard that one before) It hasnt had all the stuff put on it like the couplers in such. The last 2 engines I purchased are not what the discription said and I left neg comments to reflect that. But I am hesitant to buying another used engine without seeing it run..I really want it becasue I dont see anymore out there for sale. So I will think about it this weekend.
