Hi this is my first post after doing alot of reading here.Does anyone know if the Walthers 130ft turntable will work with there Union City Roundhouse? I have read a few posts here about stall angles and would like to make sure I get a roundhouse that is compatible. This will be my first turntable and thought I should consult with the Sages before I dive in.
I think only the modern Round House kits will work because of the 10 degree index on the 130' turn table.
It will work with the Union city roundhouse, I use both. You just need to use flex track and the round house will need to be about 8" from the round table
Yes, both the modern and the UC roundhouses will work, the only difference being the amount of track showing "out front". You get different spacing angular spacing around the turntable, but the user sets the stopping points
Here is the Union City roundhouse and the Walthers 130' N-scale turntable. The round house tracks are at 7 1/2 degree spacing and will give about 7 1/2" between the turntable and roundhouse to display your prized locos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnnVgAqLgBA Al
Thanks everyone for the information and pictures. I just ordered the turntable last night and now see that I can use pretty much any roundhouse. I will only have to adjust the distance from the turntable. Thanks John
I have one more follow up question. Does anyone know the stall depths of the Union City, The Modern and the Atlas roundhouses? I don't want to be to short for my locomotives.

Approx. 7 inches on the Union City.If you look at the video I posted earlier the two farthermost stalls were extended 2 more inches which will hold most steam locomotives. The modification is described by Charles Vlk in 'The N Scale Steam Locomotive Information Handbook' 1992 and 2006 editions published by NTRAK, Inc. Your steamers should be headed into the roundhouse - it's wider at the back where the smoke box, cylinders, valve gear etc wind up and where most of the work is done. It is prototypical for the rear end of the tender to extend outside the roundhouse on the very longest locomotives. For info only tho you didn't ask if your loco and tender are too long for your turntable you can block up the rear tender truck. UP did this to turn Challengers on a 100 foot turntable. Al
"because of the 10 degree index" Not sure how you got the idea of 10deg indexing. Indexing is set by the modeler. 60 different positions can be used. There is a small section (about 20deg of the 360 if I remember correctly) that cannot be used but unless you are modeling the circular roundhouses, which were very few, you can position that area where it isn't an issue.
George I think he meant the stall spacing on the roundhouse. 10 deg for the Atlas - 7.5 deg for Union City. al
I have the Atlas roundhouse and modified it to be shorter and have a different radius, the Walthers turntable works fine, as was mentioned earlier, the indexing is adjustable to just about any configuration.
